Jerold Charles Hoffberger (April 7, 1919 – April 9, 1999) was an American businessman. He was president of the National Brewing Company from 1946 to 1973. He was also part-owner of the Baltimore Orioles of the American League from 1954 to 1965, and majority owner from 1965 to 1979. Biography Hoffberger was a lifelong resident of Baltimore, Maryland, and was Jewish. He was the only son of his father Samuel, a lawyer who was active in the Democratic Party and a major shareholder and board chairman of National Brewing. His grandfather Charles had been a local merchant who sold wood, coal and ice. Hoffberger attended the University of Virginia. During World War II, he served in the United States Army with the 1st Armored Division in Africa, France and Italy, where he was wounded near Lake Bracciano, northwest of Rome. Jerold Ottley
Jerold Don Ottley (April 7, 1934February 19, 2021) was an American music director and choral conductor. He served as the director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (Choir) from 1974 to 1999. During his tenure, he established the Choir's annual Christmas concert and appointed its first female organist. Prior to that, he was assistant chair of the University of Utah's Music Department. Early life Ottley was born in Murray, Utah, on April 7, 1934, to Sidney and Alice Ottley. He studied choral conducting at the University of Utah, where he earned a master's degree. He was subsequently granted a Fulbright scholarship to study at the Academy of Music in Cologne. He later earned a doctorate from the University of Oregon. He became a faculty member at the University of Utah's Music Department and served as its assistant department chair. Jerold Promes
Jerold Promes (born 9 March 1984) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a centre back. Club career Born in Amsterdam, Promes came through the youth ranks of Ajax but did not make the grade at his hometown club and joined RKC Waalwijk in 2004. After a long injury lay-off he was signed by AZ to play in their youth team and then Danny Blind lined him up at Sparta Rotterdam in summer 2007. He left the club in 2009, joining SC Telstar in the Dutch second division, where he became team captain. After playing four seasons for Telstar, he left the club as a free agent. In July 2013, Promes signed a three-year contract with VVV-Venlo. A shoulder injury would, however, keep him sidelined for large parts of his first season in Venlo. Jerold M. Starr (May 12, 1941 – July 13, 2012) was an American writer, professor, and social activist. Biography He was born in Detroit, Michigan, where he attended Mumford High School and Montieth College of Wayne State University. Starr earned a Ph.D. in sociology from Brandeis University in 1970. He taught 1969–76 at the University of Pennsylvania, 1976–2002 at West Virginia University and 2004–08 at the University of California at San Diego. Since 1980 he has lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Among his many awards, Starr has been a Fulbright Scholar, National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow and recipient of the Alfred McClung Lee Award from Sociological Abstracts for "Distinguished Career as a Humanist Sociologist."
