Jericho (J-Twizzle)
Jericho Gawanab (born 21 May 1980), is a multiple award-winning Namibian rapper, songwriter and entrepreneur. He is regarded as the most successful hip hop artist in the country. He won the coveted Best Male Artist at the Namibian Annual Music Awards (2011) becoming the first hip hop artist to do so. After establishing Ghetto Child, his own record label, he rose to fame with the release of his debut studio album, ''Check Who's Back'' (2006). Gawanab, professionally known as Jericho, continued his success by releasing studio albums which include: ''Lights Out'' (2007); ''Street Fame'' (2010); ''Let Me Be Me'' (2014) which features major South African rapper Cassper Nyovest and the legendary Hip Hop Pantsula; ''The Walls of Jericho'' (2016) and ''The Recovery'' (2020). Windhoek (, , ) is the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area, at around above sea level, almost exactly at the country's geographical centre. The population of Windhoek in 2020 was 431,000 which is growing continually due to an influx from all over Namibia. Windhoek is the social, economic, political, and cultural centre of the country. Namibian Annual Music Awards
The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) ceremony was the biggest awards ceremony in Namibia. It was established in 2011 by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). They would award a NAMA trophy to musicians in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the music industry of Namibia. Along with the trophy, musicians receive sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes. The NAMAs were usually held in the capital Windhoek. It was broadcast live on DStv on an NBC channel. The show had international music judges, hosts and artists. The first NAMAs took place in May 2011 and the overall winners were Jericho (Best Male Artist) and Gal Level (Best Female Artist). Ogopa Deejays
Ogopa Deejays are a Kenyan music production team and record label formed in the late 1990s who gained regional fame and popularity due to standards of their production work. Background The people behind Ogopa DJs are brothers Francis and Lucas Bikedo, and manager Banda. They rarely show their faces in public and do not agree to have their photos taken or published by Kenyan media. The team started out producing hit songs for artists such as Bebe Cool, Chameleone and Redsan. They are widely acclaimed to have helped boost the Kenyan urban music scene from obscurity. They are also credited with creating the Boomba (sometimes referred to as Kapuka) style of Kenyan music which is modern hip hop and dancehall influenced by African drums and rhythms. A lead single (also known as a debut single) is the first single to be released from a studio album by an artist or a band, usually before the album itself is released and also occasionally on the same day of the album's release date. Township (South Africa)
