Jens Thiis
Jens Thiis (12 May 1870 – 27 June 1942) was a Norwegian art historian, conservator and a prominent museum director. He was conservator at the Nordenfjeld Industrial Arts Museum (''Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum'') in Trondheim beginning in 1895 and director of the National Gallery in Oslo from 1908 to 1941. Biography Jens Peter Thiis was born at Kongshavn in Aker, Norway. He was the son of Abraham Bøckmann Thiis (1840–90) and Emma Marie Löwegren (1842–1928). Thiis grew up with his mother's parents, goldsmith H. P. Löwegren and his wife in Kristiania (now Oslo). He graduated artium at Aars og Voss' skole in 1888. Helge Thiis
Helge Thiis (16 August 1897 – 1 August 1972) was a Norwegian architect. He is most noted for service as head architect at the restoration of Nidaros Cathedral. Background Helge Thiis was born in Trondheim, Norway. He was the son of curator and museum director, Jens Thiis (1870–1942) and Ragna Vilhelmine Dons (1870–1939). The family moved to Kristiania (now Oslo) in 1908, when his father was appointed director at the National Art Museum (now the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design). Helge Thiis took his final examination in 1915 and began studying architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, receiving his diploma in 1919. He worked 1920-23 as assistant architect for Arnstein Arneberg in Oslo, followed by architect Gunnar Asplund in Stockholm, and again in Oslo with the architectural firm of Andreas H. Ragna Thiis Stang
Ragna Thiis Stang (15 September 1909 – 29 March 1978) was a Norwegian historian and museum administrator. Biography She was born in Kristiania (now Oslo), Norway. She was a daughter of museum director Jens Thiis and his wife Vilhelmine Dons. Her brother was architect Helge Thiis. After graduating artium at Oslo in 1929, she studied art history at the University of Oslo. She also conducted several study trips to Belgium, France, Greece and Germany . She stayed at the Swedish Archaeological Institute in Rome from 1934-35. In 1937 she took her master's degree in art history. She received her doctorate in 1960. Stang was appointed at the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History from 1938 to 1944. From 1947 she was manager of the Vigeland Museum at Frogner. Verrocchio
Andrea del Verrocchio (, , ; – 1488), born Andrea di Michele di Francesco de' Cioni, was a sculptor, Italian painter and goldsmith who was a master of an important workshop in Florence. He apparently became known as ''Verrocchio'' after the surname of his master, a goldsmith. Few paintings are attributed to him with certainty, but a number of important painters were trained at his workshop. His pupils included Leonardo da Vinci, Pietro Perugino and Lorenzo di Credi. His greatest importance was as a sculptor and his last work, the Equestrian statue of Bartolomeo Colleoni in Venice, is generally accepted as a masterpiece. Vestre Gravlund is a cemetery in the Frogner borough of Oslo, Norway. It is located next to the Borgen metro station. At , it is the largest cemetery in Norway. Order Of Vasa
The Royal Order of Vasa () is a Swedish order of chivalry, awarded to citizens of Sweden for service to state and society especially in the fields of agriculture, mining and commerce. It was instituted on 29 May 1772 by King Gustav III. It was unrestricted by birth or education and could therefore be awarded to anyone (as opposed to the Order of the Polar Star, which was intended as a reward for the learned professions). It was the most junior of all the Swedish orders. It was often awarded to Norwegian subjects of the dual monarchy until Oscar I founded the Norwegian Order of St. Olav in 1847.
