Jennifer Tran (born November 24, 1997) is an American television personality who appeared on season 28 of '' The Bachelor'', and starred in season 21 of '' The Bachelorette''. She is the first Asian-American in the lead role in the history of the ''Bachelor'' franchise. Early life and education Tran was born and raised in Hillsdale, New Jersey, to Vietnamese immigrants. She is Buddhist, and has an older brother, James. She graduated from Pascack Valley High School in 2016, where she played basketball and lacrosse. Tran attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years, before transferring to the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
