Jeanne Manet
Gilberte Marcelle Lachmann (27 November 1917 – 15 January 2012), better known as Jeanne Manet, was a French film actress. After appearing in some French films, Manet moved to Hollywood. Originally regarded there as a rising starlet, her roles were generally supporting ones. During the occupation of France, Manet starred in ''Vive la Liberté'', a film made by the French underground. In 1946, Manet wed Pat Hurst, who was then an Office of Strategic Services officer. After World War II ended, he returned to his former career of acting, and she temporarily retired. Actress Dorothy Lamour was credited with persuading Manet to leave retirement and return to acting. Houilles () is a Communes of France, commune in the Yvelines Departments of France, department in the Île-de-France Regions of France, region in north-central France. It is a northwestern suburb of Paris, located from the Kilometre Zero, center of Paris. History Until 2000, the command post of French Navy, French Navy's Force océanique stratégique, Ballistic Missile Submarine Force was based at Houilles. Victor Schœlcher, a French abolitionist writer in the 19th century and the main spokesman for a group from Paris who worked for the abolition of slavery died in Houilles on 25 December 1893. A nursery school, a street and a statue carry his name. The house in which he died in 1893 is at 26 Avenue Schœlcher. The commune of Houilles acquired the house in 2011. ''Pepe'' is a 1960 American musical comedy film starring Cantinflas in the title role, directed by George Sidney. The film contained a multitude of cameo appearances, attempting to replicate the success of Cantiflas' American debut ''Around the World in 80 Days''. The film received generally unfavorable reviews from critics and failed to match the box-office success of his previous American film. Dorothy Lamour (born Mary Leta Dorothy Slaton; December 10, 1914 – September 22, 1996) was an American actress and singer. She is best remembered for having appeared in the '' Road to...'' movies, a series of successful comedies starring Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. Lamour began her career in the 1930s as a big band singer. In 1936, she moved to Hollywood, where she signed with Paramount Pictures. Her appearance as Ulah in ''The Jungle Princess'' (1936) brought her fame and marked the beginning of her image as the "Sarong Queen". In 1940, Lamour made her first ''Road series'' comedy film ''Road to Singapore''. The ''Road series'' films were popular during the 1940s.
