Pepe (film)
''Pepe'' is a 1960 American musical comedy film starring Cantinflas in the title role, directed by George Sidney. The film contained a multitude of cameo appearances, attempting to replicate the success of Cantiflas' American debut ''Around the World in 80 Days''. The film received generally unfavorable reviews from critics and failed to match the box-office success of his previous American film. The movie was issued on VHS tape in 1998; to date, a DVD and a Blu-ray have been released in Spain, but none in the United States. Plot Pepe is a hired hand, employed on a ranch. A boozing Hollywood director, Mr. Holt, buys a white stallion that belongs to Pepe's boss. Pepe, determined to get the horse back (as he considers it his family), decides to go to Hollywood. George Sidney
George Sidney (October 4, 1916May 5, 2002) was an American film director and producer who worked primarily at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. His work includes cult classics ''Bye Bye Birdie'' (1963) and ''Viva Las Vegas'' (1964). With an extensive background in acting, stage direction, film editing, and music, Sidney created many of post-war Hollywood’s big budget musicals, such as '' Annie Get Your Gun'' (1950), ''Show Boat'' (1951), ''Kiss Me Kate'' (1953); ''Jupiter's Darling'' (1955), and '' Pal Joey'' (1957). Michael Callan (born Martin Harris Calinieff; November 22, 1935 – October 10, 2022) was an American actor best known for originating the role of Riff in ''West Side Story'' on Broadway, and for his film roles for Columbia Pictures, notably ''Gidget Goes Hawaiian'', '' The Interns'' and ''Cat Ballou''. Carlos Rivas (born, Oscar Weber, February 16, 1925 – June 16, 2003) was an American actor, best remembered as Lun Tha in ''The King and I'' (1956), Dirty Bob in ''True Grit'' (1969), and Hernandez in ''Topaz'' (1969). Early life Rivas was born in El Paso, Texas, to a German father and Mexican mother. English was his first language and he was also known as Oscar von Weber and Karl Weber. Hank Henry (July 9, 1906 – March 31, 1981) was an American comedian, known for his stage work on the Las Vegas Strip for decades. He was also a film and television actor. Henry got his start in American burlesque and was the comic to straightman Robert Alda, Alan Alda's father. Biography Henry was born Henry Rosenthal in New York City; the son of Anna (née Richards), and Franklin Rosenthal. Henry's mother came from England, and his father was German-American descended from the Pennsylvania Dutch. Matt Mattox (August 16, 1921 – February 18, 2013) was an American jazz dance, jazz and ballet dancer. He was a Broadway performer and a specialty dancer in many Hollywood musicals. A foal is an equine up to one year old; this term is used mainly for horses, but can be used for donkeys. More specific terms are colt for a male foal and filly for a female foal, and are used until the horse is three or four.
