Jean Rankin
Lady Jean Margaret Florence Rankin (''née'' Dalrymple; 15 August 1905 – 3 October 2001) was a Scottish naturalist and courtier who served as Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother from 1947–1994. Early life Rankin was born at Oxenfoord Castle, Midlothian, the eldest child of John Dalrymple, 12th Earl of Stair (then Viscount Dalrymple) and Violet Evelyn Harford, only daughter of Col. Frederick Henry Harford and Florence Helen Isabella Parsons, granddaughter of Lawrence Parsons, 2nd Earl of Rosse. She grew up at the family seats at Oxenfoord and at Lochinch Castle, a 75,000-acre estate in Wigtownshire — where she learned to drive at age 12 — as well as in London, where her father represented Wigtownshire as an MP (1906–14). In the Royal Household of the United Kingdom the term Woman of the Bedchamber is used to describe a woman (usually a daughter of a peer) attending either a queen regnant or queen consort, in the role of lady-in-waiting. Historically the term 'Gentlewoman of Her Majesty's Bedchamber' was sometimes used. In addition to the Women of the Bedchamber, queens (regnant or consort) have Ladies of the Bedchamber (typically wives or widows of peers above the rank of earl), and a Mistress of the Robes (usually a duchess) who is the senior female member of her household. The Women of the Bedchamber are usually in regular attendance, but the Mistress of the Robes and the Ladies of the Bedchamber are normally only required for major events and occasions. Château-d'Œx () is a municipality in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It is in the district of Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut. History Château-d'Œx is first mentioned in 1115 as ''Oit'', ''Oyz'', ''Oix'' and ''Oyez''. Prehistoric settlements During the late Paleolithic and Mesolithic (9500 BC to at least 6000 BC) caves around Château-d'Œx served as a seasonal settlement. Bronze Age knives indicate that there was a settlement during that era as well. Many of the local names (''combe'' = valley, ''joeur'' = forest, ''man''= rock) and the local dialect are the only traces of a Celtic settlement in the area. Calgary, Mull
Calgary is a hamlet on the northwest coast of the Isle of Mull, in Argyll and Bute, Scotland, United Kingdom. The hamlet is within the parish of Kilninian and Kilmore. It was the origin of the name of Fort Calgary in Canada, which became the city of Calgary, Alberta. Geography Calgary is situated on the B8073 about west of Dervaig, and from the island's capital Tobermory. The settlement is a small community of houses scattered near a hotel and the Calgary Farmhouse. The hamlet is at the eastern end of Calgary Bay and is framed by low hills, partly wooded.
