Jean Martin (singer)
Jean Martin (1919–2004) was an American singer and actor. Born in Texas, she moved to New York and worked in radio and television during the 1950s. She was married to William Black, who was the founder of the Chock full o'Nuts restaurant chain and coffee brand. Early life Elta Jean Martin was born on December 6, 1919, in Cisco, Texas. She was the third of four daughters born to Effie Pearl Day and Lawrence Aulstin Martin, a railroad clerk who later became involved with the automobile trade. The family moved to Abilene, Texas, where Martin went to high school, graduating in 1938. Whilst at the school she was a member of the Wig and Mask, and the Cyclo-Drama dramatic clubs. Cisco, Texas
Cisco is a city in Eastland County, Texas. The population was 3,899 at the time of the 2010 census. History Cisco, at the intersection of U.S. Highway 183 and Interstate 20 in northwestern Eastland County, traces its history back to 1878 or 1879, when Rev. C. G. Stevens arrived in the area, established a post office and a church, and called the frontier settlement "Red Gap". About six families were already living nearby, and W. T. Caldwell was running a store a half mile to the west. In 1881, the Houston and Texas Central Railway crossed the Texas and Pacific, which had come through the year before, at a point near Red Gap, and the settlement's inhabitants moved their town to the crossing. The date the rails crossed, May 17, 1881, is considered by some to be Cisco's "birthday." Jerry Lester
Jerry Lester (born Lester J. Goldberg; February 16, 1910 – March 23, 1995) was an American comedian, singer and performer on radio, television and the stage, knows for playing the father of the main characters, Mike Firpo, in the comedy '' Odds and Evens'' and who hosted the first network late night television program as host of ''Broadway Open House'' on NBC, a vaudeville-esque combination of comedy and music, whose success demonstrated the potential for late-night television and led to the creation of the ''Tonight Show''. Thomas Franklyn Manville Jr. (April 9, 1894 – October 8, 1967) was an American socialite and heir to the Johns-Manville asbestos fortune. Premium Point is a guard-gated private community in the city of New Rochelle in Westchester County, New York, United States. The area consists of a series small islands connected by bridges to a peninsular fronting on Long Island Sound and backing on Premium Mill Pond and Echo Bay. Much of the shore line of Premium Point is high and rocky, both on the Sound and on the Bay. Premium Mill Pond is located between the Premium Point peninsula and the mainland. It is fed by the Premium River and is separated from Echo Bay by the former Premium Mill dam. John Conte (September 15, 1915 – September 4, 2006) was a stage, film and TV actor, and television station owner. Early years Conte was born in Palmer, Massachusetts. His mother was Italian and his father was French-Italian. The family moved to Los Angeles, California when John was 5. While a student at Abraham Lincoln High School (Los Angeles, California), Lincoln High School in Los Angeles, Conte focused on classes in drama and, for three years, was the school's top entrant in Shakespearian competition. After graduating, he joined the Pasadena Playhouse and "took every role offered to him juvenile, leading man, character." He later got jobs as a radio actor and singer. Moritz "Morey" Amsterdam (December 14, 1908 – October 28, 1996) was an American actor, comedian, writer and producer. He played Buddy Sorrell on CBS's ''The Dick Van Dyke Show'' from 1961 to 1966. Early life Amsterdam was born in Chicago, Illinois, the youngest of the three sons of Max and Jennie (née Finder) Amsterdam, Jewish immigrants from Austria-Hungary. He began working in vaudeville in 1922 as the straight man for his older brother's jokes. He was a cellist, a skill he used throughout his career.
