Jean Barbier
Jean Barbier (9 July 1875 – 31 October 1931) was a French-Basque author. Life He participated in the creation and discussion of the Euskaltzaindia, the Academy of the Basque language. Works He contributed regularly to the weekly ''Navarro-labourdin Eskualduna''. He reviewed for ''Gure Herria'' from the time of its founding in 1921. French Basque Country
The French Basque Country, or Northern Basque Country ( eu, Iparralde (), french: Pays basque, es, País Vasco francés) is a region lying on the west of the French department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Euskaltzaindia
Euskaltzaindia (; often translated Royal Academy of the Basque Language) is the official academic language regulatory institution which watches over the Basque language. It conducts research, seeks to protect the language, and establishes standards of use. It is known in Spanish as ''La Real Academia de la Lengua Vasca'' (being under the royal patronage of the Spanish monarchy, like the Real Academia Española) and in French as ''Académie de la Langue Basque''. Creation The Euskaltzaindia was established within the context of the Basque Renaissance (''Eusko Pizkundea'', 1876–1936) in the framework provided by the Congress of Basque Studies held in Oñati in 1918, at a time when the Basque language was being proclaimed as a central cultural value to be protected and promoted. Abbé Prévost
Antoine François Prévost d'Exiles ( , , ; 1 April 169725 November 1763), usually known simply as the Abbé Prévost, was a French priest, author, and novelist. Life and works He was born at Hesdin, Artois, and first appears with the full name of Prévost d'Exiles, in a letter to the booksellers of Amsterdam in 1731. His father, Lievin Prévost, was a lawyer, and several members of the family had embraced the ecclesiastical estate. His happy childhood ended abruptly, when he lost his mother and his younger favorite sister at the age of 14. Prévost was educated at the Jesuit school of Hesdin, and in 1713 became a novice of the order in Paris, pursuing his studies at the same time at the college in La Flèche. At the end of 1716 he left the Jesuits to join the army, but soon tired of military life, and returned to Paris in 1719, apparently with the idea of resuming his novitiate.
