Jean-Léonard Touadi
Jean-Léonard Touadi (born 25 January 1959 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo) is a Congolese- Italian journalist, author and politician. Touadi was raised in France and immigrated to Italy in 1979. There, he rose to prominence as a television journalist and as Rome's deputy mayor in charge of security. In the 2008 general election he was elected to the Italian Parliament with Italy of Values (IdV), becoming Italy's second black Member of Parliament (MP) and the first MP from sub-Saharan Africa. Chamber Of Deputies (Italy)
The Chamber of Deputies ( it, Camera dei deputati) is the lower house of the bicameral Italian Parliament (the other being the Senate of the Republic). The two houses together form a perfect bicameral system, meaning they perform identical functions, but do so separately. The Chamber of Deputies has 400 seats, of which 392 will be elected from Italian constituencies, and 8 from Italian citizens living abroad. 2008 Italian General Election
A snap election was held in Italy on 13–14 April 2008. The election came after President Giorgio Napolitano dissolved the Italian Parliament on 6 February 2008, following the defeat of the government of Prime Minister Romano Prodi in a January 2008 Senate vote of confidence and the unsuccessful tentative appointment of Franco Marini with the aim to change the current electoral law. Under Italian law, elections must be held within 70 days of the dissolution. The voting determined the leader of Italy's 62nd government since the end of World War II. Dacia Soraya Valent (12 February 1963 – 22 January 2015) was a Somali-born Italian politician and former Member of the European Parliament. Biography Dacia Valent was born in Mogadishu to an Italian father and a Somali mother. She traveled extensively around the world during her youth and moved permanently to Udine, in Northern Italy, in 1980. In 1985, while she lived in Udine, her 16-year-old brother Giacomo was stabbed to death as the result of a fight with two classmates. She lived in Rome at the time of his death. After an unsuccessful period as an Engineering student and after the breakup of her marriage (during which she gave birth to two children), she joined the Polizia di Stato and was initially assigned to a police station in Milan. Mercedes Lourdes Frias is an Italian-Dominican politician. She was elected to the Italian Chamber of Deputies in 2006, serving until 2008. She was the first Black woman to be a member of the Italian parliament. Life and career Frias was born on October 28, 1962 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She attended the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo, where she obtained a degree in geography. She worked as a community activist, focusing particularly on issues affecting women and immigrants from Haiti. In 1990, Frias moved to Prato. There she continued her activist work, eventually becoming an organizer with Italy's Federation of Protestant Churches. She became an Italian citizen in 2004.
