Jean-Christophe Ammann
Jean-Christophe Ammann (14 January 1939 – 13 September 2015) was a Swiss art historian and curator. Life and work Born in Berlin, Ammann, son of a chemist, grew up in a German-speaking family in Fribourg. He actually wanted to become a doctor, but after his Matura in 1959 at the Collège Saint-Michel he studied history of art, Biblical archaeology and German literature. In 1966, he received his doctorate from the University of Fribourg on the work of Louis Moilliet. From 1966 to 1968, he was an assistant to Harald Szeemann at the Kunsthalle Bern. He then directed the Kunstmuseum Luzern until 1977. In 1971, he was Swiss commissioner for the ''Biennale Paris'' and in 1972 he worked with Harald Szeemann on the conception of documenta 5, which "went down in exhibition history as the most interesting and influential" In 1978, he was co-organiser of ''Arte Natura'' in the international pavilion of the Venice Biennale. Curator
A curator (from la, cura, meaning "to take care") is a manager or overseer. When working with cultural organizations, a curator is typically a "collections curator" or an "exhibitions curator", and has multifaceted tasks dependent on the particular institution and its mission. In recent years the role of curator has evolved alongside the changing role of museums, and the term "curator" may designate the head of any given division. James Turrell
James Turrell (born May 6, 1943) is an American artist known for his work within the Light and Space movement. Much of Turrell's career has been devoted to a still-unfinished work, ''Roden Crater'', a natural cinder cone crater located outside Flagstaff, Arizona, that he is turning into a massive naked-eye observatory; and for his series of skyspaces, enclosed spaces that frame the sky. Frieder Burda
Frieder Burda (29 April 1936 – 14 July 2019, in Baden-Baden) was a German art collector and Honorary Citizen of Baden-Baden. Life Born on 29 April 1936 in Gengenbach, Burda was the second son of publisher Franz Burda and his wife Aenne Burda (née Lemminger). Together with his older brother and his younger brother Hubert, Burda grew up in Offenburg. After finishing school in Offenburg, Triberg and Switzerland, he completed a print and a publishing qualification. Burda was trained in his father's business group. Later he lived in France and became a magazine publisher. He spent several years in England and the United States before becoming a printer in Darmstadt. He developed his company into one of the leading commercial print foundries in Europe. Burda died on 14 July 2019 in Baden-Baden at the age of 83. Kriens
Kriens is a city and a municipality in the district of Lucerne in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland. The municipality lies at the foot of the mountain Pilatus, and is a western suburb of Lucerne. History In the oldest documents of the Benedictine Monastery of Lucerne, ''Chrientes'' is specified as one of their 16 properties. ''Chrientes'' specified an area between Mt. Pilatus and the Lake of Lucerne. The monastery received the area as a present from two noble sisters. This document dates from about 840 AD. The Habsburgs acquired the municipality in 1291. Balthasar Burkhard
Balthasar Burkhard (24 December 1944 – 16 April 2010) was a Swiss photographer who received international recognition for his large-format monochromatic photographic series. Life Born in Bern in 1944, Burkhard was apprenticed to photographer Kurt Blum. After opening his studio in 1965, he was retained as documentation photographer by the ''Kunsthalle Bern'', cooperating closely with curator Harald Szeemann and portraying many artists. This triggered Burkhard's interest in contemporary art.
