Jean-Baptiste Marie Fouque
Jean-Baptiste Marie Fouque (July 2, 1819 – April 11, 1880), also anglicised as Jean Marius Fouque or Marius Fouque, was a French painter specialising in portraits and mythological subjects. Biography Born in Arles in 1819, the son of the locksmith Honorat Fouque and Marguerite Barbier, Jean-Baptiste studied painting under the Arlesian painter and archaeologist François Huard. He was awarded a scholarship from the city council of Arles, to study at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. There, he studied under the direction of Joseph-Léon de Lestang-Parade and Léon Cogniet. In 1854 he married Marie Perrine Leray, a seamstress from Rennes. The couple had two sons: Émile, born in 1849, and Adrien, born in 1855. The first exhibition of Fouque's art was in 1846, and resulted in a steady stream of commissions for the government of the Second French Empire. Arles
Arles (, , ; oc, label= Provençal, Arle ; Classical la, Arelate) is a coastal city and commune in the South of France, a subprefecture in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in the former province of Provence. A large part of the Camargue, the largest wetlands in France, is located on the territory of the commune, making it the largest commune in Metropolitan France in terms of geographic territory. (Maripasoula, French Guiana, is much larger than Arles). The city has a long history, and was of considerable importance in the Roman province of Gallia Narbonensis. The Roman and Romanesque Monuments of Arles were listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1981 for their testimony to the history of the region. Many artists have lived and worked in this area because of the southern light, including Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Jacques Réattu, and Peter Brown. Princess Tatiana Alexandrovna Yusupova (russian: Татьяна Александровна Юсупова; 29 June 1829 – 14 January 1879) was a Russian noblewoman and lady-in-waiting to Alexandra Feodorovna (Charlotte of Prussia), Empress Alexandra, of the Imperial Court of Russia. She was the Countess Ribeaupierre and wife of one of the richest landowners Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov (junior), Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov. Early life Tatiana was the youngest daughter of Count Alexander Ivanovich Ribopierre, a Russian diplomat of Swiss origin and Ekaterina Mikhailovna Ribeaupierre, Ekaterina Mikhailovna Potemkina, who was a niece of Grigory Potemkin, Prince Potemkin. She was born and raised abroad, where her father was stationed. In addition to her native French, she learnt German, Italian, English and Russian.
