Jayne Christie (née Measures) is an English international lawn bowler. Christie made her international debut in 2000 and later captained England in 2008. She was runner-up in the 1999 & 2002 National Championships singles. In 2003 she was part of the England team that won Team gold medal at the European Bowls Team Championships in Vilamoura. In 2004, she won the gold medal in the fours with Jean Baker, Amy Monkhouse and Ellen Falkner at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls"). World Bowls Championship
The World Bowls Championship is the premier world bowls competition between national bowls organisations. The premier indoor event is the World Indoor Bowls Championships listed separately and is organised by the World Bowls Tour. World Outdoor Championships First held in Australia in 1966, the World Outdoor Bowls Championships for men and women are held every four years. From 2008 the men's and women's events were held together. Qualifying national bowls organisations (usually countries) are represented by a team of five players, who play once as a single and a four, then again as a pair and a triple. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded in each of the four disciplines, and there is also a trophy for the best overall team — the Leonard Trophy for men and the Taylor Trophy for women. 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship
The 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship was held at the Northfield Bowls Complex in Ayr, Scotland, from 23 July to 7 August 2004 and Victoria Park, Leamington Spa in England one month later. Steve Glasson won the men's singles Gold defeating Alex Marshall in the final. Canada claimed the pairs, Scotland took the triples and Ireland won the fours. The Leonard Trophy was won by Scotland for the fifth time extending their impressive record. Gold Medal
A gold medal is a medal awarded for highest achievement in a non-military field. Its name derives from the use of at least a fraction of gold in form of plating or alloying in its manufacture. European Bowls Team Championships
The European Bowls Championship formerly the European Bowls Team Championships is a biennial continental lawn bowls tournament for European nations. From its inauguration in 1997 until September 2021, the tournament was organised by the European Bowls Union (EBU). In September 2021, the members of what was the "European Bowls Union" (E.B.U.) voted unanimously, to rebrand and be replaced by the newly formed, limited company, Bowls Europe Ltd (registered in Scotland). Vilamoura
Vilamoura is a coastal resort in the Loulé municipality in Algarve, Portugal. It is one of the three corners of Algarve's Golden Triangle. Vilamoura comprises one of the largest single tourist complexes in Europe and with about 2,000 hectares of land. The nearest airport is in Faro. Jean Baker (born 1958, in Huthwaite) is a former English international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career World Championships Baker won bronze medals at the 1992 World Outdoor Bowls Championship, 1996 World Outdoor Bowls Championship and 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. Amy Pharaoh (born 20 March 1979 in Grimsby), also known as Amy Gowshall and Amy Monkhouse, is an English international lawn and indoor bowler. Personal life In August 2002, she married and became Amy Monkhouse. She has since reverted to her birth name of Amy Gowshall but then remarried in 2022 to become Amy Pharaoh. Career Gowshall won a bronze medal in the Women's pairs at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Ellen Marie Falkner (née Alexander; born 12 June 1979) is an English international lawn and indoor bowler from Cambridge, England. Falkner was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to lawn bowls. Nick Brett (born 14 May 1974) is an English lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Brett bowls for the Huntingdon indoor bowls club and Brampton outdoor bowls club. He was ranked the indoor world number 1 in 2015 and 2016. and also won an outdoors National Title in 1999 and subsequent singles at the British Isles Bowls Championships in 2000. Brett's greatest achievement before 2016 was winning the 2014 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs title partnering Greg Harlow. It was during the 2016 World Indoor Bowls Championship that Brett became the World Singles Champion for the first time beating Robert Paxton in a competitive final.
