Jayasagara Class Patrol Craft
The Jayasagara class is a class of Offshore patrol vessels that are part of the Sri Lankan Navy and have been locally built. History Built by Colombo Dockyard Limited for the Sri Lankan Navy in the early 1980s, these were the first warships built in Sri Lanka in modern times. Designed for off shore patrol and naval fire support on coastal areas they have seen action with the Sri Lankan Navy for more than 20 years. Two ships of this class were built. Currently one is still in service while the other was lost due to a suicide attack carried out by the LTTE. Mostly used for patrol duties they have been deployed on many occasions to support amphibious operations carried out by the navy along with the Sri Lanka Army. Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) is a shipbuilding company in Sri Lanka and is based in Colombo. It has built both military and civilian vessels for both local and overseas clients. History Colombo Dockyard established its operations in 1974 and is one of Sri Lanka's engineering facilities in the business of ship repair, shipbuilding, heavy engineering and offshore engineering. It is situated within the Port of Colombo, thus having the benefits of a deep water harbour. Facilities and operation Colombo Dockyard operates four graving drydocks, the largest one with a capacity of as well as repair berth facilities. It is accredited with the ISO 9001-2015 quality certification by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance. Colombo Dockyard has operated in joint collaboration with Onomichi Dockyard Japan since 1993- the collaboration's twenty-year anniversary was celebrated on March 26, 2013. Diesel Engine
The diesel engine, named after Rudolf Diesel, is an internal combustion engine in which ignition of the fuel is caused by the elevated temperature of the air in the cylinder due to mechanical compression; thus, the diesel engine is a so-called compression-ignition engine (CI engine). SLNS ''Jayasagara'' (P-601) (''Jayasagara'', in Sinhalese: Sea of victory) is an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) of the Sri Lanka Navy. It was the lead ship of the locally built ''Jayasagara'' class. She served as the flagship of the fleet in the 1980s and 1990s. Operations Since joining the Sri Lankan fleet in 1983, she served as its flagship and was deployed for patrolling the coastal water around Sri Lanka.
