Jay Jalisi
Hasan "Jay" Jalisi (born November 17, 1965) is an American politician who was a Democratic member of the Maryland House of Delegates for District 10, based in Baltimore County, from 2015 to 2023. In 2022, he unsuccessfully ran for Maryland Senate, placing second to state Delegate Benjamin Brooks. Early life and career Jalisi was born on November 17, 1965, in Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan. His family is from India and later moved to Pakistan, and then to Bangladesh, where his father taught at a medical school. He graduated from B. V. S. Parsi High School in Karachi, Pakistan and later attended the University of Karachi, where he earned a M.D. degree in 1990. After graduating, he moved to the United States and worked positions at Harvard University and the Cleveland Clinic. He came to Baltimore in 1997 to attend Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a M.P.H. degree in international health systems in 1998. Maryland's Legislative District 10 is one of 47 districts in the state for the Maryland General Assembly. It covers part of Baltimore County. Demographic characteristics As of the 2020 United States census, the district had a population of 122,424, of whom 95,144 (77.7%) were of voting age. Bilal Abdul Malik Ali is an American politician who served as a delegate to the Maryland General Assembly representing Maryland's District 41. Political career Ali was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates, filling the vacancy created when Jill P. Carter resigned. He was defeated for election in the 2018 Democratic primary. In the legislature Ali was sworn in on February 3, 2017, and assigned to the House Ways and Means committee. He was a member of the Baltimore City Delegation and the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland. In January 2018 Ali introduced a bill entitled the "Jared Kushner Act" to prohibit the issuing of civil arrest warrants for tenants being sued for less than $5,000 in unpaid rent.
