Jay Gambetta
Jay M. Gambetta is a scientist and executive, leading the team at IBM Thomas J Watson Research Center working to build a quantum computer. Education Following his Bachelor of Science and Honours degree at Griffith University in 1999 (gaining four awards, including a University medal), Gambetta began a PhD under the supervision of Howard Wiseman in quantum foundations and non-Markovian open quantum systems. After graduating in 2004, Gambetta turned his research to the then-nascent field of superconducting quantum computing. He gained a post-doctorate post at Yale. In 2007, he moved to the Institute for Quantum Computing in Waterloo, where he worked as a postdoc and gained in 2009 a Junior Fellowship from the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). Quantum Volume
Quantum volume is a metric that measures the capabilities and error rates of a quantum computer. It expresses the maximum size of square quantum circuits that can be implemented successfully by the computer. The form of the circuits is independent from the quantum computer architecture, but compiler can transform and optimize it to take advantage of the computer's features. Thus, quantum volumes for different architectures can be compared. The current world record for highest quantum volume as of February 2023 is 32,768 (215), accomplished by Quantinuum's H1 Ion trap quantum computer. An IBM Fellow is an appointed position at IBM made by IBM's CEO. Typically only four to nine (eleven in 2014) IBM Fellows are appointed each year, in May or June. Fellow is the highest honor a scientist, engineer, or programmer at IBM can achieve. IBM Q System One
IBM Quantum System One is the first circuit-based commercial quantum computer, introduced by IBM in January 2019. This integrated quantum computing system is housed in a 2.7x2.7x2.7 m airtight glass cube that maintains a controlled physical environment. The cylinder protruding from the ceiling in the center is a dilution refrigerator, containing a 20-qubit transmon quantum processor. It was tested for the first time in the summer of 2018, for two weeks, in Milan, Italy. IBM Quantum System One was developed by IBM Research, with assistance from the Map Project Office and Universal Design Studio. Qiskit is an open-source Software development kit, software development kit (SDK) for working with Quantum Computer, quantum computers at the level of circuits, pulses, and algorithms. It provides tools for creating and manipulating Quantum circuit, quantum programs and running them on prototype quantum devices on IBM Quantum Experience or on simulators on a local computer. IBM Quantum Experience
The IBM Quantum Composer and the IBM Quantum Lab (previously known collectively as the IBM Quantum Experience) form an online platform allowing public and premium access to cloud-based quantum computing services provided by IBM Quantum. This includes access to a set of IBM's prototype quantum processors, a set of tutorials on quantum computation, and access to an interactive textbook.
