Javier Barraycoa
Javier Barraycoa (born in Barcelona, 17 October 1963) is a philosopher and Spanish writer, associate professor of sociology at Abat Oliva CEU University in Barcelona. He has been secretary of the political party Comunión Tradicionalista Carlista in Catalonia and collaborates with La Gaceta. He is the current president and also founder of Somatemps. He states that is also a founder of Catalan Civil Society (Societat Civil Catalana, SCC) but the organisation negates it. However, Somatemps published in their blog a photograph of him being in a SCC meeting planning their political agenda while stating they gave the initial support to the entity. He has published books delegitimizing Catalan nationalism by portraying it as racial nationalism, emphasizing the racism of some Catalan nationalists of the 19th century. Racial Nationalism
Racial nationalism is an ideology that advocates a racial definition of national identity. Racial nationalism seeks to preserve "racial purity" of a nation through policies such as banning race mixing and the immigration of other races. Pep Ventura
Josep Maria Ventura i Casas (Alcalá la Real ( Jaén), 1817 – Figueres (Catalonia), 1875), popularly known as Pep Ventura, was a Spanish musician and composer from Catalonia who consolidated the long sardana and reformed the cobla, adding instruments to give it its current formation. He is considered the father of the modern Sardana by the profound transformation that he printed to these compositions, based on giving it greater musical extension, in the inclusion of new instruments, especially the tenora (instrument creation of Andreu Turon) from 1849 and its arrangement in the cobla, which will imitate another musical formations of this type. Sardana
The ''sardana'' (; plural ''sardanes'' in Catalan) is a Catalan musical genre typical of Catalan culture and danced in circle following a set of steps. The dance was originally from the Empordà region, but started gaining popularity throughout Catalonia from the late 19th century to beginning of the 20th century after the modernisation done by Josep Maria Ventura i Casas. Men and women join together in a circle by holding hands and facing inwards to dance either the historical ''sardana curta'' (with an approximate duration of 5 minutes) or the present-day ''sardana llarga'' (with a duration of approximately 12–13 minutes). Other more unusual sardanes are the ''sardana de lluïment'' and the ''sardana revessa''. The steps are meticulously counted as two- or three-step movements taken sideways within the circle. Catalan nationalism is the ideology asserting that the Catalans are a distinct nation. Intellectually, modern Catalan nationalism can be said to have commenced as a political philosophy in the unsuccessful attempts to establish a federal state in Spain in the context of the First Republic (1873-1874). Valentí Almirall i Llozer and other intellectuals that participated in this process set up a new political ideology in the 19th century, to restore self-government, as well as to obtain recognition for the Catalan language. Societat Civil Catalana ("Catalan Civil Society", SCC by its Catalan acronym) is a Barcelona-based grass-roots organisation that was created in 2014 with the aim of promoting Catalonia’s union to Spain.
