Jath
Jat is a town and taluka headquarters in Miraj subdivision of Sangli district in southern Maharashtra. History Jat was the capital of a former Maratha jagir ruled by Dafales. Most of the dynasty period it was affiliated with Bijapur. For some time it was associated with Kolhapur as well as Satara Maratha dynasties. Later, Jat became a non-salute princely state until 8 March 1948 and then joined the Dominion of India. Then it was part of Satara district. When the Sangli district was formed, Jat became the eastern tahasil of Sangli. Freedom fighter Sindhura Lakshmana was born in Sindhur village of Jath taluka. Lakshmana (1898–1922) fought against the British colonial government in India. He is remembered as a popular rebel hero and freedom fighter in Karnataka. Sindhura Lakshmana
Sindhura Lakshmana (1898–1922) was an Indian revolutionary fighter, who fought in the independence movement against British Colonial rule in India. Biography Lakshmana was born in Sindhur village, which is now in Jatha taluk of Sangli district in Indian state of Maharashtra. During the time when Mahatma Gandhi's Non-cooperation movement was spreading across India, Lakshmana started his own struggle against the British by forming a band of men to loot the tax money collected by the government treasury and distribute it among the populace. In 1922, he was shot dead by the British in a sting operation, while dining at the home of a British informant, in a shot to the head by British snipers. In popular culture Sindhura Lakshmana is regarded as a hero and freedom fighter especially in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra due to his redistribution of colonial taxes to the poor people of the region. Miraj
Miraj (Pronunciation: iɾəd͡z ) is a city in Sangli District and also in Maharashtra, India, that was founded in the early 10th century. It was an important jagir of the Adil Shahi court of Bijapur. Shivaji Maharaj stayed in Miraj for two months during his South India Campaign. Because of its location, Miraj has been held as a strategic bastion. It was the capital of Miraj Senior and is an important junction on the central railway network. The Pathwardhan family were the hereditary rulers of Miraj until independence. Lingayatism or Veera Saivism is a Hindu denomination based on Shaivism. Initially known as ''Veerashaivas'', since the 12th-century adherents of this faith are known as ''Lingayats''. Sharane Sri Danamma Devi
Sharane Sri Danamma Devi is worshipped as an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. Shri Shiva Sharani Danamma Devi was initially called "Lingamma". She was born to Anantaraya and Shirasamma in Maharashtra in a small city (grama) of "Umarani" in Jatta Taluk, 20 miles west of the Bijapur district.
