Jasvir Singh (barrister)
Jasvir Singh ( Punjabi: ਜਸਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ) is a British family law barrister, media commentator and social activist. He is a co-founder of South Asian Heritage Month. Jasvir regularly appears in the British media to speak about the British Sikh experience and also interfaith related matters. Career Born in London, Singh has worked as a family law barrister since 2006. He made the decision to join the legal profession after he saw one of his close aunts go through a traumatic divorce when he was 8. He is the chairperson for the Faiths Forum for London, an interfaith organisation based in London representing the interests of the 9 major faith traditions. He is chairperson for City Sikhs, a charity which represents the interests of progressive Sikhs. In 2016 he also became an associate of St Paul's Institute. ''Thought for the Day'' is a daily scripted slot on the ''Today'' programme on BBC Radio 4 offering "reflections from a faith perspective on issues and people in the news", broadcast at around 7:45 each Monday to Saturday morning. Nowadays lasting 2 minutes and 45 seconds, it is a successor to the five-minute religious sequence ''Ten to Eight'' (1965–1970) and, before that, ''Lift Up Your Hearts'', which was first broadcast five mornings a week on the BBC Home Service from December 1939, initially at 7:30, though soon moved to 7:47. The Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm is an initiative established on 9 June 2020 by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to review public tributes in the British capital, including statues and other landmarks. History The commission was formed in response to the George Floyd protests in the United Kingdom, in which protesters toppled a statue of Edward Colston in Bristol and defaced a number of statues across the country. The Grand Trunk Road (formerly known as Uttarapath, Sarak-e-Azam, Shah Rah-e-Azam, Badshahi Sarak, and Long Walk) is one of Asia's oldest and longest major roads.
