Jasper Wolfe
Jasper Travers Wolfe (3 August 1872 – 27 August 1952) was an Irish Independent politician (Ireland), Independent politician who served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for Cork West (Dáil constituency), Cork West from 1927 to 1933. He was born into a Methodist family the son of William J. Wolfe. He was educated at Bishop's School, Skibbereen and was admitted as a solicitor in 1893. He obtained first place in his final exams and was awarded the Findlater Scholarship. He was a member of Skibbereen Urban District Council for a number of years. He was crown prosecutor in Cork (city), Cork city for a period and for the West Riding of County Cork from 1916 to 1923. He was the first Cork man to hold the Presidency of the Incorporated Law Society of Ireland. A Teachta Dála ( , ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas (the Irish Parliament). It is the equivalent of terms such as ''Member of Parliament'' (MP) or '' Member of Congress'' used in other countries. The official translation of the term is "Deputy to the Dáil", although a more literal translation is "Assembly Delegate". The Southern Star (County Cork)
''The Southern Star'' is a weekly regional newspaper based in Skibbereen, County Cork in Ireland and was established in 1889 as the ''Cork County Southern Star'', by brothers Florence and John O'Sullivan. One of its rival newspapers in the 19th century was ''The Skibbereen Eagle'', founded in 1857. It had become "famous by declaring it was 'keeping an eye on the Czar of Russia' over his expansionist designs on China". On the centenary of the event, Brendan McWilliams gave a slightly different account in ''The Irish Times'', saying that on 5 September 1898 ''The Skibbereen Eagles editorial stated "We will still keep our eye on the Emperor of Russia and on all such despotic enemies, whether at home or abroad, of human progression and man's natural rights.". The September 1927 Irish general election to the 6th Dáil was held on Thursday, 15 September, following the dissolution of the 5th Dáil on 25 August.
