Jarvik (film)
''Jarvik'' is a Canadian short drama film, directed by Émilie Mannering and released in 2019. The film centres on a young girl (Léïa Scott) whose desire for freedom conflicts with the medical limitations experienced by her brother (Maxime Roberge), who has an artificial heart. The film's cast also includes Maëlla Gougeon-Larouche and Monia Chokri. The film premiered at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. It was subsequently screened at the Festival du nouveau cinéma, where it won the award for Most Popular Short Film. She is most noted for her short films '' Star'', which was a Quebec Cinema Award nominee for Best Short Film at the 18th Quebec Cinema Awards and a Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards, and ''Mahalia Melts in the Rain'', which was shortlisted for Best Live Action Short Drama at the 7th Canadian Screen Awards. Monia Chokri
Monia Chokri (born 27 June 1982) is a Canadian actress and film director. Life and career Born in Quebec City in 1982, she began her acting career after she completed her studies at Montreal's Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in 2005. Her mother is of Scottish origin through Scandinavian ancestors, while her father is descended from Tunisian Berber roots. In addition to having played in several theatre productions in Montreal, she has received notable roles in films presented at the Cannes Film Festival directed by Québécois filmmakers who are better known outside of Canada, namely Denys Arcand and Xavier Dolan. The 44th annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 5 to 15 September 2019. The opening gala was the documentary film '' Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band'', directed by Daniel Roher, and the festival closed with a screening of the biographical film ''Radioactive'', directed by Marjane Satrapi. Artificial Heart
An artificial heart is a device that replaces the heart. Artificial hearts are typically used to bridge the time to heart transplantation, or to permanently replace the heart in the case that a heart transplant (from a deceased human or, experimentally, from a deceased genetically engineered pig) is impossible.
