Janéa Holmquist Newbry
Janéa Noel Holmquist Newbry (born December 14, 1974) is an American politician of the Republican Party. She was a member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 13th Legislative District from 2007 to 2015. She previously served in the Washington House of Representatives from 2001 to 2006. Background Holmquist Newbry was first elected to the Senate in 2006, after serving 3 terms as the 13th District's State Representative. At 31, she became the youngest female State Senator in Washington history. She was the chairwoman on the Washington State Senate Commerce and Labor Committee, and also serves on the Trade and Economic Development Committee. Richard Norman Hastings (born February 7, 1941) is an American politician and member of the Republican Party who served as the U.S. representative for from 1995 until his retirement in 2015. Washington's 4th congressional district encompasses a large area of central Washington, covering the counties of Douglas, Okanogan, Grant, Yakima, Franklin, Benton, and Adams, and part of Walla Walla County. The district is dominated by the Yakima and Tri-Cities areas. The fourth district is predominantly rural, and is considerably more conservative than the western part of the state. Its Republican dominance is long-established: no Democratic presidential candidate has carried any county in the district since Bill Clinton in 1992 carried Okanogan County. None of the other counties in the district have backed a Democrat for President since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, while Adams County has not voted Democratic since Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936.
