Janjevci
Janjevci (, sq, Janjevët, sh-Latn-Cyrl, separator=" / ", Janjevci, Јањевци) or Kosovo Croats ( sq, Kroatët e Kosovës, sh-Latn-Cyrl, separator=" / ", Kosovski Hrvati, Косовски Хрвати) are the Croats, Croat community in Kosovo, inhabiting the town of Janjevo and surrounding villages near Pristina, as well as villages centered on Vitina (town), Letnica near Vitina (town), Vitina (Šašare, Vrnez, and Vrnavokolo), who are also known as ''Letničani''. Identity and culture The Janjevci declare as ethnic Croats, and derive their ethnonym (''Janjevci'') from their traditional community centre, in Janjevo. It is believed that the community descends from migrating merchants from the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik and its hinterland) who settled the area in the 14th century medieval Serbia. Croats
The Croats (; hr, Hrvati ) are a South Slavic ethnic group who share a common Croatian ancestry, culture, history and language. They are also a recognized minority in a number of neighboring countries, namely Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Due to political, social and economic reasons, many Croats migrated to North and South America as well as New Zealand and later Australia, establishing a diaspora in the aftermath of World War II, with grassroots assistance from earlier communities and the Roman Catholic Church. Janjevo
Janjevo () or Janjevë (in Albanian) is a village or small town in the Lipljan municipality in eastern Kosovo. The settlement has a long history, having been mentioned for the first time in 1303 as a Catholic parish. The town was prior to the Kosovo War (1998–99) inhabited by a majority of Croats, known by their demonym as ''Janjevci'', who since have left massively for Croatia. Geography Janjevo is described as a village or small town, located in Lipjan municipality, by Gornja Gušterica and Teče. History Middle Ages Janjevo was first mentioned in 1303. Slava (patron Saint)
Slava ( sr-Cyrl, Слава, lit=Glory, Celebration, ) is a tradition of the ritual of glorification of one's family's patron saint, found mainly among Serbs, Serbian Serbian Orthodox Church, Orthodox Eastern Orthodox Church, Christians. The family celebrates the Slava annually on the saint's feast day. In 2014 it was inscribed in UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Lists of Serbia. Overview The Slava is a family's annual ceremony and veneration of their patron saint. It is a tribute to the family's first ancestor who was baptized into Christianity, with its presiding saint. Dubrava is a large urban area in east Zagreb, Croatia. Kosovo War
The Kosovo War was an armed conflict in Kosovo that started 28 February 1998 and lasted until 11 June 1999. It was fought by the forces of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (i.e. Serbia and Montenegro), which controlled Kosovo before the war, and the Kosovo Albanians, Kosovo Albanian rebel group known as the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
