Janel Bishop
Janel Bishop (born 1974) is an American beauty queen who won the 1991 Miss Teen USA title. She is the first African-American winner of this pageant. Background Bishop won the Miss New Hampshire Teen USA title and represented New Hampshire in the Miss Teen USA 1991 pageant held in Biloxi, Mississippi on 19 August 1991. She became the first contestant from New Hampshire to win the Miss Teen USA title and was crowned by outgoing titleholder Bridgette Wilson of Oregon. Bishop received more than $150,000 in cash and prizes as part of her prize package. Miss New Hampshire Teen USA
The Miss New Hampshire Teen USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of New Hampshire in the Miss Teen USA pageant. It was directed by The Clemente Organization based in Malden, Massachusetts from 2013 to 2019. GDB Theatre and Pageant Productions became the new directors for the event starting from 2020 competition. In terms of number of placements New Hampshire is one of the least successful states. From 1983 to 2007 their only placement was when Janel Bishop won the Miss Teen USA title in 1991 becoming the 8th state that won the Miss Teen USA title for the first time. Two New Hampshire teens have competed at Miss USA, one after winning the Miss New Hampshire USA and one as Miss New York USA. Miss Teen USA 1991
Miss Teen USA 1991, the 9th Miss Teen USA pageant, was televised live from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi on 19 August 1991. At the conclusion of the final competition, Janel Bishop of New Hampshire was crowned by outgoing titleholder Bridgette Wilson of Oregon. Bishop is the first African American winner ever and the first titleholder from New Hampshire. The pageant was hosted by Dick Clark (who last hosted it in 1988 and was already also hosting Miss USA & Miss Universe Pageants on CBS), with color commentary by Leeza Gibbons and Miss Teen USA 1985 Kelly Hu for the second time. Miss Oregon USA
The Miss Oregon USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Oregon in the Miss USA pageant. It is currently produced by Pageant NW Productions based in Puyallup, Washington. Oregon has only had limited success at Miss USA and has yet to win the title. The highest placed Miss Oregon USA was Gail Atchison who finished 2nd runner-up to Barbara Peterson in 1976. The most recent finalist was Toneata Morgan in 2018. Two Miss Oregon USA titleholders have formerly held the Miss Oregon Teen USA title and competed at Miss Teen USA.
