Jan Svěrák () (born 6 February 1965 in Žatec) is a Czech film director. He is the son of screenwriter and actor Zdeněk Svěrák. He studied documentary filmmaking at the FAMU. He and his films have received awards including the Academy Award, Crystal Globe, Golden Globe Award, and Tokyo Grand Prix. ''Accumulator 1'' ( cs, Akumulátor 1) is a 1994 film directed by Jan Svěrák. The film won the Grand Prize at the 7th Yubari International Fantastic Film Festival in February 1996. It won the audience award at the Tromsø International Film Festival in 1996. Plot After a young surveyor, Olda (Petr Forman), watches himself on television, and his colleagues Slezák ( Bolek Polívka) steals his love interest Jitka ( Tereza Pergnerová), he is suddenly completely without energy and ends up unconscious for three days. In hospital he meets Fišarek (Zdeněk Svěrák), a healer who is visiting his neighbour, Mikulík (Jiří Kodet). After leaving hospital he works on his energy problems with Fišarek, who shows him how to take energy from his surroundings, especially wood. When Mikulík dies, they go to inspect his body. Po strništi bos (English - Barefoot, or Barefoot on Stalks) is a 2017 Czech war comedy film directed by Jan Svěrák. It is a prequel to ''The Elementary School''. Plot The film follows the young boy Eda Souček and his extended family during World War II. ''Kooky'' ( cs, Kuky se vrací, literally "Kuky returns", a pun on '' Lassie se vrací'') is a 2010 Czech action comedy film directed by Jan Svěrák. The film combines techniques of puppet animation, stop motion and live action. It tells the story of a six-year-old asthmatic boy whose parents throw his favorite toy away, an old teddy bear named Kooky. The boy, however, secretly sneaks out of the house at night (without his boots and being dressed only in his pajamas), to retrieve Kooky from the garbage can and bring him back home. Due to that, the boy gets ill. In his feverish dreams, Kooky comes to life in the landfill, escapes into a mysterious forest and begins its journey amongst the rough-and-ready creatures of the forest.
