Jan Mesdag
Jan Mesdag (Rotterdam, Netherlands, December 9, 1953 – December 4, 1988) was a Dutch singer and cabaret artist. Mesdag, who was born Jan Henry de Vey Mestdagh, was a sensation in the Dutch cabaret scene of the 1980s due to his fine singing voice, acting, violin-playing and magic skills. Education After completing gymnasium in Rotterdam, Mesdag moved in 1974 to Utrecht. There, he studied music for a year. He noticed he was favoring practice over theory. For that reason, he decided to study classical voice for the next two years at the Utrecht conservatory. In 1977 he was accepted at the Kleinkunstacademie (cabaret academy) in Amsterdam. Jan Mesdag's classmates included noted Dutch cabaretiers Kees Prins, Arjan Ederveen and Rik Hoogendoorn. A workshop of a certain American artist was so inspiring that in 1979, Mesdag decided to move to New York City to continue his education. Karin Bloemen
Karin Bloemen is a Dutch actress and singer. She has appeared in several films and television shows in the Netherlands. Since 1983 Bloemen is a singer and cabaret artist who is very extrovert and likes to draw attention to herself with her striking appearance, her beautiful songs and lively performances. In her theatre shows and concerts she makes use of her fabulous voice and expressive facial expressions and she plays the audience very well. She is exuberant and extroverted and can also be subdued and sensitive. Before she had even finished her study at the Academy of Arts in Amsterdam in 1984, she won several prizes. Nederlands Film Festival
The Netherlands Film Festival ( nl, Nederlands Film Festival) is an annual film festival, held in September and October of each year in the city of Utrecht. During the ten-day festival, Dutch film productions and co-productions are exhibited. Besides feature films, the program also consists of short subjects, documentary films, and television productions. On the closing evening of the festival, the Golden Calves are awarded to the best films, directors, and actors. Jacques Romain Georges Brel (, ; 8 April 1929 – 9 October 1978) was a Belgian singer and actor who composed and performed literate, thoughtful, and theatrical songs that generated a large, devoted following—initially in Belgium and France, later throughout the world. He is considered a master of the modern chanson. Cats (musical)
''Cats'' is a sung-through musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based upon the 1939 poetry collection ''Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats'' by T. S. Eliot. It tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make the "Jellicle choice" by deciding which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. As of 2022, ''Cats'' remains the fourth-longest-running Broadway show and the seventh-longest-running West End show. Lloyd Webber began setting Eliot's poems to music in 1977, and the compositions were first presented as a song cycle in 1980. Producer Cameron Mackintosh then recruited director Trevor Nunn and choreographer Gillian Lynne to turn the songs into a complete musical.
