Jan Kunc
Jan Kunc (27 March 1883, Doubravice nad Svitavou – 11 September 1976, Brno) was a Czech composer, teacher, and writer. From 1898 to 1902 Kunc attended the teachers' college in Brno, as well as the Organ School (1901–3) where his teacher was the composer Leoš Janáček. He studied composition with Vítězslav Novák at the Prague Conservatory from 1905 to 1906. From 1919 until 1945, he was a professor at the Brno Conservatory, becoming director of that institution in 1923. Kunc composed music for piano, chamber music, mixed choir, and solo vocal, as well as symphonic poems. In 1933 he composed a new setting of the traditional chant ''Christus vincit, Christus regnat, Christus imperat'' which became the interval signal for Vatican Radio, and in 1935 he created the official arrangement of the Czech state anthem. KUNC (91.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a News/Talk public radio format. Licensed to Greeley, Colorado, United States, it serves Northern Colorado, including Fort Collins and Greeley. The station is owned and operated by Community Radio for Northern Colorado, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. History KUNC began operations January 6, 1967 at the University of Northern Colorado as KCBL. It became KUNC on May 1, 1970. During the Fall of 2000, UNC put the station up for sale in an effort to save money. Colorado Public Radio in Denver agreed to purchase the station; it had been looking to expand its offerings to Northern Colorado for some time. Interval Signal
An interval signal, or tuning signal, is a characteristic sound or musical phrase used in international broadcasting, numbers stations, and by some domestic broadcasters, played before commencement or during breaks in transmission, but most commonly between programmes in different languages. It serves several purposes: * It helps a listener using a radio with an analog tuner to find the correct frequency. * It informs other stations that the frequency is in use. * It serves as a station identifier even if the language used in the subsequent broadcast is not one the listener understands. The practise began in Europe in the 1920s and 1930s and was carried over into shortwave broadcasts. The use of interval signals has declined with the advent of digital tuning systems, but has not vanished.
