Jan Kališ
Jan Kališ (7 July 1930 – 23 July 2003) was a Czech cinematographer and pedagogue. He studied cinematography at FAMU. He worked at Studio of children films (1954–1955) and then at Barrandov Studios (1955–1990). He was teaching cinematography at FAMU from 1965 to 2003. He often worked with directors Zbyněk Brynych and Jindřich Polák. Since 1960s he also worked on productions for West German televisions. Brno ( , ; german: Brünn ) is a city in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. ''Case for a Rookie Hangman'' ( cs, Případ pro začínajícího kata) is a Czechoslovak drama film directed by Pavel Juráček. It was released in 1970. The movie belongs to the Czech New Wave. The movie can be classified as a surrealist or absurdist satire, and it is based loosely on the third book of ''Gulliver's Travels'' by Jonathan Swift, but the story is transferred to an early 20th-century world in decay. The movie shows also the influence of Franz Kafka and Lewis Carroll ('' Alice's Adventures in Wonderland''). ''The Fifth Horseman Is Fear'' ( cs, A pátý jezdec je strach) is a 1965 Czechoslovak film about the Holocaust that was directed by Zbyněk Brynych. Instead of depicting gas chambers and concentration camps, the film examines the subtler but equally debilitating mental effects of oppression. It gets its name from the story of the ''Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse'' written about in the Book of Revelation. The film uses expressionist cinematography, and its film score is set to discordant piano music. Plot Set in Prague during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, the film follows Dr. Braun, a Jewish doctor forbidden to practice medicine. He instead works for German officials, cataloging confiscated Jewish property.
