Jamie Ballem
Jamie Ballem (born October 31, 1954) is a Canadian farmer and politician, who served as a cabinet minister, notably as Minister of the Environment and Minister of Health. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1996 to 2007. He represented the electoral district of Stanhope-East Royalty and was a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. On August 4, 2010, Ballem announced his candidacy for the Leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party of PEI but came in second to Olive Crane. The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. Robert Vessey (Canadian Politician)
Robert Vessey (born 27 November 1961) is a Canadian politician. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island in the 2007 provincial election and represented the electoral district of York-Oyster Bed as a member of the Liberal Party until 2015. Vessey was previously the Liberal candidate in Stanhope-East Royalty in the 2003 election. In June 2007, Vessey was named Government House Leader. In January 2010, Vessey was appointed to the Executive Council of Prince Edward Island as Minister of Tourism. Following his re-election in the 2011 election, Vessey was moved to Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. The Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island is one of three major political parties on Prince Edward Island. The party and its rival, the Liberals, have alternated in power since responsible government was granted in 1851. Mary Olive Crane (born 28 November 1957) is a Canadian politician and social worker from Douglas Station, Prince Edward Island. She was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island from 2007 to 2010 on an interim basis and 2010 to 2013 on a permanent basis. She was also leader of the Official Opposition in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 2007 to 2010 and 2010 to 2013. A native of Morell, Prince Edward Island, Crane is a graduate of Dalhousie University. She is a career civil servant, working as a social worker for the provincial government since 1979. The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is a public university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the only university in the province. Founded in 1969, the enabling legislation is the ''University Act, R.S.P.E.I 2000.'' History The university traces its roots back to 1804, when Lt. Governor Edmund Fanning and the Legislative Council of Prince Edward Island called for the establishment of Kent College. By 1820, the first Kent College building, known as "the National School", or James Breading's School was erected. Later succeeded by Central Academy, which received a Royal Charter in 1834. The paper was originally launched in the 1870s as ''The Presbyterian and Evangelical Protestant Union'', owned by Presbyterian minister Stephen G. Lawson. It adopted its current name in 1887.
