James West (athletics)
James West (born 30 January 1996) is a British track and field athlete. He is a multiple-time British champion. Early life From Thanet, Kent, he is member of Tonbridge Athletics Club. He attended Loughborough University and the University of Oregon. Career In 2022 West finished as runner-up to Marc Scott in the 5000m at the British national championships, running a 13.44.47 new personal best. West won the 3000m national title in February 2023. He was selected for the Great Britain squad for the 2023 European Indoor Athletics Championships held at the Ataköy Athletics Arena in Istanbul. He finished eighth in Istanbul, with a time of 7:48.22s. In July 2023, he won the British 5000m title, at the British National Championships in Manchester in a time of 13:42.03. 3000m
The 3000 metres or 3000-metre run is a track running event, also commonly known as the "3K" or "3K run", where 7.5 laps are run around an outdoor 400 m track, or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track. It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle-distance or long-distance event. In elite-level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.43 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning, and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the mile runner. The 5000 metres or 5000-metre run is a common long-distance running event in track and field, approximately equivalent to or . It is one of the track events in the Athletics at the Summer Olympics, Olympic Games and the World Championships in Athletics, run over laps of a standard track. The same distance in road running is called a 5K run; referring to the distance in metres rather than kilometres serves to disambiguate the two events. Marc Scott
Marc Scott (born 21 December 1993) is a British long-distance runner. He took his first global medal with bronze in the 3000 metres at the 2022 World Indoor Championships. He is the current European record holder in the indoor 5000 metres and the British record holder for the road 5 km. Scott represented Great Britain in the 5000 metres at the 2017 (London) and the 2019 (Doha) World Athletics Championships and at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Running career Scott started running at the age of 11. He grew up playing football as well as running, and was "moderately" successful as a high school runner according to ''Tulsa World''. 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships
The 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held from 2 to 5 March 2023 at the Ataköy Athletics Arena in Istanbul, Turkey, the first time the event has taken place in this country although the venue did stage the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships, 2012 World Indoor Championships. Ataköy Athletics Arena ( tr, Ataköy Atletizm Salonu), is an indoor sporting arena for track and field athletics events located in Ataköy, Istanbul, Turkey.
