James Holland (January 12, 1754 – May 19, 1823) was a U.S. Congressman from the state of North Carolina from 1795 to 1797 and from 1801 to 1811. He served as a captain in the Lincoln County Regiment of the North Carolina militia during the American Revolution.Congressional Biography Early life Born near Rutherfordton, North Carolina, in 1754, Holland received a very limited education. James Holland (18 October 1799 – 12 February 1870) was an English painter of flowers, landscapes, architecture and marine subjects, and book illustrator. He worked in both oils and watercolours and was a member of the Royal Watercolour Society. Life and work Holland was born in Burslem, Staffordshire, where his grandfather, Thomas Holland, produced pottery. James was employed in Longport at the pottery works of William Davenport, from the age of 12, for 7 years, painting flowers on pottery and porcelain. In 1819, he came to London where he continued to work as a pottery painter, but also gave lessons in drawing landscapes, architecture, and marine subjects. James Robert Holland (born 15 May 1989) is an Australian football player who plays as a midfielder for Austria Wien in the Austrian Football Bundesliga. Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Holland played youth football at the New South Wales Institute of Sport before making his professional debut for Central Coast Mariners in 2006. He went on to play for the Australian Institute of Sport before spending two seasons with Newcastle Jets. James Job Holland (1841 – 31 August 1922) was a Liberal Party Member of Parliament in Auckland, New Zealand, and the mayor of Auckland from 1893 to 1896. Biography Early life Born in Leicester, England, Holland emigrated to New Zealand in 1860, settling in Auckland in 1864 after spending time in the Otago gold fields and serving as a sergeant with the Militia in the Waikato during the New Zealand Wars. James Phillip Holland (31 December 1934 – 26 March 1998) was an American endocrinologist and professor. Holland primarily researched animal thyroid endocrinology and reproductive hormones of women, but was best known for his decades of teaching at Indiana University Bloomington and his work in mentoring and advocating for minority students. Holland was also the first Black American from Kentucky to be named to the United States Military Academy, nominated by Senator John Sherman Cooper, though he decided not to attend.
