James Holland (author)
James Holland (born 27 June 1970) is an English author and broadcaster who specializes in the history of World War II. His most recently published written work is 2021's ''Brothers in Arms: One Legendary Tank Regiment's Bloody War from D-Day to VE-Day'', which follows the Sherwood Rangers, a British tank regiment, throughout multiple battles. Early life and education Holland was born in Salisbury, Wiltshire. He was educated at Chafyn Grove School, Salisbury, and King's School, Bruton, and in 1992 attained a BA degree in History from St Chad's College, Durham. His elder brother Tom Holland is also a writer and historian. Career Holland has written both novels and non-fiction history books focusing on the Second World War, and has presented documentary programming about WWII for television and radio. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. The Authors Cricket Club is a wandering amateur English cricket club founded in 1892 and revived most recently in 2012. Prominent British writers including Arthur Conan Doyle, P.G. Wodehouse, A.A. Milne and J.M. Barrie have been featured as players on the club team, the Authors XI. Original team (1892–1912) The original Authors Cricket Club was an offshoot of the Authors' Club, which had been founded in 1891 as a place for British authors to gather and talk. ''Sherlock Holmes'' author Arthur Conan Doyle, an excellent cricketer who would go on to play ten first-class matches for the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1903, was a frequent bowler for the team. Bowerchalke
Bowerchalke is a village and civil parish in Wiltshire, England, about southwest of Salisbury. It is in the south of the county, about from the boundary with Dorset and from that with Hampshire. The parish includes the hamlets of Mead End, Misselfore and Woodminton. Bowerchalke is in the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is part of the Southern England Chalk Formation. The River Chalke, a classic chalk stream, rises in the village and joins the River Ebble at Broad Chalke, flowing into the Hampshire Avon south of Salisbury. The Grade II* listed church of the Holy Trinity dates from the 13th century, and Nobel Prize winning novelist William Golding is buried in the churchyard. The Battle of Kohima proved the turning point of the Imperial Japan, Japanese Operation U-Go, U-Go offensive into British Raj, India in 1944 during the World War II, Second World War. The battle took place in three stages from 4 April to 22 June 1944 around the town of Kohima, now the capital city of Nagaland in Northeast India. From 3 to 16 April, the Japanese attempted to capture Kohima ridge, a feature which dominated the road by which the besieged British Army, British and British Indian Army, Indian troops of IV Corps (United Kingdom), IV Corps at Imphal were supplied. By mid-April, the small British and Indian force at Kohima was relieved.
