James Edward Rutledge
James Edward Rutledge (August 14, 1889 – August 15, 1966) was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1939 to 1956 as a Liberal member. He was born in Sheet Harbour, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, the son of Alexander Cameron Rutledge and Ada Stewart Hartling. He was educated at Dalhousie University. He served as a lieutenant in the Canadian Expeditionary Force during World War I. In 1917, Rutledge married Minnie Etoile Silver. He was named King's Counsel in 1932. The Nova Scotia Liberal Party is a centrist provincial political party in Nova Scotia, Canada and the provincial section of the Liberal Party of Canada. The party currently forms the Official Opposition in Nova Scotia, under the leadership of Zach Churchill. The party was in power most recently from the 2013 election until the 2021 election. Origins The party is descended from the pre-Confederation Reformers in Nova Scotia who coalesced around Joseph Howe demanding the institution of responsible government. Canadian Expeditionary Force
The Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) was the expeditionary field force of Canada during the First World War. It was formed following Britain’s declaration of war on Germany on 15 August 1914, with an initial strength of one infantry division. The division subsequently fought at Ypres on the Western Front, with a newly raised second division reinforcing the committed units to form the Canadian Corps. The CEF and corps was eventually expanded to four infantry divisions, which were all committed to the fighting in France and Belgium along the Western Front. A fifth division was partially raised in 1917, but was broken up in 1918 and used as reinforcements following heavy casualties. King's Counsel
In the United Kingdom and in some Commonwealth countries, a King's Counsel ( post-nominal initials KC) during the reign of a king, or Queen's Counsel (post-nominal initials QC) during the reign of a queen, is a lawyer (usually a barrister or advocate) who is typically a senior trial lawyer. Technically appointed by the monarch of the country to be one of 'His erMajesty's Counsel learned in the law', the position originated in England and Wales. William Duff Forrest
William Duff Forrest (June 2, 1874 – September 12, 1939) was a physician and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Halifax Centre in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1937 to 1939 as a Liberal member. He was born in Halifax, the son of the Reverend John Forrest and Annie Prescott Duff.
