Jim Davis (actor)
Jim Davis (born Marlin Davis; August 26, 1909 – April 26, 1981) was an American actor, best known for his roles in television Westerns. In his later career, he became famous as Jock Ewing in the CBS primetime soap opera, ''Dallas'', a role he continued until he was too ill from a terminal illness to perform. Life and career Born in Edgerton in Platte County in northwestern Missouri, Davis attended high school in Dearborn, and the Baptist-affiliated William Jewell College in Liberty. At WJC, he played tight end on the football team and graduated with a degree in political science. He served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. James Bennett Davis (September 15, 1924 – November 30, 1995) was an American professional baseball pitcher who appeared in 154 games in Major League Baseball for the Chicago Cubs (–), St. Louis Cardinals () and New York Giants (1957). In 1956, Davis became the first MLB pitcher in forty years to record four strikeouts in a single inning. Born in Red Bluff, California, Davis was a left-hander who stood tall and weighed . He graduated from Red Bluff High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He signed with the Boston Red Sox in 1946 and toiled in their farm system for four years before his contract was sold to the Triple-A Seattle Rainiers in 1950. After he appeared in 157 games over four seasons for Seattle, Davis was acquired by the Cubs in 1954. Davis' repertoire included both a screwball and a knuckler. James Davis (Australian Politician)
James Davis (c.1811 – 26 October 1859) was a pastoralist and politician in colonial Victoria, a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. Davis was a pastoralist at ''Woodside Creek'' in Gippsland from 1847 to 1859, and ''The Meadows'' at Merriman's Creek from 1847 to 1850. Davis married Louisa Frances Harrison (a daughter of Peter Degraves) on 22 April 1837. In November 1856, Davis was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Alberton, a position he held until August 1859. Davis and his family left Hobson's Bay (Melbourne) on 25 August 1859 aboard the ''Royal Charter'' bound for Liverpool. James Davis (October 21, 1721–1785) was an early American printer and the first printer and first postmaster of the colony of North Carolina. He was also the founder and printer of the ''North-Carolina Gazette'', North Carolina colony's first newspaper. After working with William Parks in Virginia he removed to New Bern to pursue a printing career upon learning that an official printer was needed in that colony. Soon after his arrival he began to put down roots, married, and became active in local politics, holding several positions in public office, including membership in the North Carolina Assembly and thereafter a county Sheriff. Davis secured the position of the official printer for the colonial government of the North Carolina colony and was first to print its laws and paper currency. James-Andrew Davis (born 3 July 1991) is a British fencer, European champion in 2014. He competed in men's foil at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. Career Davis was born and brought up in Barnet, North London. He became interested in fencing at the age of four, while waiting for his mother to pick up his brother for his own sport at a Saturday club and fenced at clubs including RLS Fencing and Finchley Foils. James Roger William Davis (6 February 1982 – 9 August 2003) was an English footballer who played as a forward. He signed for Manchester United as a youth trainee in July 1999 and the following month he signed professional terms with the club. He played numerous times for the youth and reserve sides at United and was part of the team that won the Manchester Senior Cup in May 2000. He had a short spell on loan at Belgian club Royal Antwerp in 2001 before returning to United and making his senior debut in a League Cup tie against Arsenal during the 2001–02 season. Jim Davis (1887–1934) was a pioneer Australian rugby league footballer. He was one of his country's first national representative players making the 1908–09 Kangaroo tour of Great Britain and then had a patchy first-grade club career in the first decade of the code's popularity in Sydney. Career Club Davis had been a South Sydney rugby union junior before he joined the new South Sydney rugby league club in its inaugural 1908 season. He initially played three seasons with the club and was sent off in the 1910 Grand Final played against Newtown. He played the 1911 NSWRFL season with North Sydney before playing three seasons with the Glebe club.
