James Butterfield
James "Jim" Butterfield (born 1 September 1950 in Hamilton, Bermuda) was a rower for Bermuda at the 1972 Olympics. As of 2015, is the only person to ever represent Bermuda in rowing at the Olympics. He also represented Bermuda in the marathon at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, finishing 17th. His son Tyler Butterfield was a two-time Olympic triathlete for Bermuda while James himself finished 7th at the 1981 Ironman World Championship. Hamilton, Bermuda
The City of Hamilton, in Pembroke Parish, is the territorial capital of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda. It is the territory's financial centre and a major port and tourist destination. Its population of 854 (2016) is one of the smallest of any capital city. The 1972 Summer Olympics (), officially known as the Games of the XX Olympiad () and commonly known as Munich 1972 (german: München 1972), was an international multi-sport event held in Munich, West Germany, from 26 August to 11 September 1972. The event was overshadowed by the Munich massacre in the second week, in which eleven Israeli athletes and coaches and a West German police officer at Olympic village were killed by Palestinian Black September members. The motivation for the attack was the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The 1972 Summer Olympics were the second Summer Olympics to be held in Germany, after the 1936 Games in Berlin, which had taken place under the Nazi regime, and the most recent Olympics to be held in the country. 1978 Commonwealth Games
The 1978 Commonwealth Games were held in Edmonton, Alberta from 3 to 12 August 1978, two years after the 1976 Summer Olympics were held in Montreal, Quebec. They were boycotted by Nigeria, in protest at New Zealand's sporting contacts with apartheid-era South Africa, as well as by Uganda, in protest at alleged Canadian hostility towards the government of Idi Amin. The Bid Election was held at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. This was the first Commonwealth Games where a computerised system was used to handle ticket sales. These were the first Commonwealth Games to be named ''Commonwealth Games'', having dropped ''British''. The Games were opened by Queen Elizabeth II for the first time since becoming Queen in 1952. Tyler Butterfield
Tyler Barbour Butterfield (born February 12, 1983) is an athlete from Bermuda. He competes in road bicycle racing and triathlon events. He became Bermuda's first ever professional triathlete in 2002. He was voted Bermuda's male athlete of the year in 2006 and 2013. Butterfield was the youngest male competitor at the second Olympic triathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He placed thirty-fifth with a total time of 1:58:26.99. Butterfield was born in Pembroke Parish. In 2007, he competed for Team Slipstream, a UCI Professional Continental Team. In 2006, he raced as an amateur cyclist for the Vendee U team based in France. He finished 11th in the cycling road race at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he again competed in the men's triathlon, finishing in thirty-fourth with a time of 1:50:32.
