James A. Corcoran (Brooklyn)
James A. Corcoran (c. 1880 – January 10, 1949) was an American politician from New York. Life He was born about 1880. In 1905, he married Mary Genevieve DeLacy, and they had two children. He engaged in the real estate and insurance business. Corcoran was elected on November 7, 1939, to the New York State Assembly (Kings Co., 22nd D.), to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Daniel Gutman, and took his seat in the 162nd New York State Legislature in January 1940. He was re-elected in 1940 and 1942, and remained in the Assembly until 1943, sitting in the 163rd and 164th New York State Legislatures. He resigned his seat on August 6, 1943, to run for the State Senate seat vacated by the resignation of Daniel Gutman. Corcoran was elected on November 2, 1943, to the New York State Senate, and took his seat in the 164th New York State Legislature in January 1944. Roy H (foaled April 22, 2012) is a Thoroughbred racehorse who is the two time winner of the Breeders' Cup Sprint. He was named the American Champion Sprint Horse of 2017 and 2018. Kenneth Sherbell (April 12, 1917 – January 23, 1998) was an American labor union leader and politician from New York. Life He was born on April 12, 1917, in South Coventry, Tolland County, Connecticut. The family removed to East New York, Brooklyn. He attended the public schools and graduated from Brooklyn College. While still in college, he began to work in a dry-goods store, and joined Local 65 of the Wholesale and Warehouse Workers Union, affiliated with the CIO. Later he became a union leader and became active in politics as a member of the American Labor Party. In 1939, he married Evelyn Berkowitz, and they had two children. From May 1943 to December 1945, he served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist's mate, 2nd class.
