Death Of Oury Jalloh
Oury Jalloh (1969 in Conakry, Guinea – 7 January 2005, in Dessau, Germany) was an asylum seeker who died in a fire in a police cell in Dessau, Germany. The hands and feet of Jalloh, who was alone in the cell, were tied to a mattress. A fire alarm went off, but was initially turned off without further action by an officer. The case caused national and international outrage at the official narrative of suicide. Life According to documents that his parents later filed in court, Oury Jalloh was born in 1969 in Conakry, Guinea. Reportedly he fled from the Sierra Leone Civil War to Guinea, where his parents were already living, and came to Germany in 1999, where he applied for political asylum. His application was declined, but he received an exceptional leave to remain in the country. His child with a German citizen was put up for adoption by the mother shortly after birth. Adama Jalloh (born 1993) is a British photographer of Sierra Leonean heritage whose work has been exhibited at Tate Modern and the V&A Museum. She specialises in portraiture and documentary photography. Early life and education Jalloh was born in 1993 to Sierra Leonean parents and is based in London. She has a BA in commercial photography from the Arts University Bournemouth, and won the '' British Journal of Photography'' Breakthrough Award for a single image by an undergraduate in 2015. Alhaji Abubakarr Jalloh is a Sierra Leonean politician. Since the election of Ernest Bai Koroma as President of Sierra Leone in September 2007, Jalloh has served as Minister of Mineral Resources. In 2002 Presidential election, Jalloh was the running mate of Koroma in the All People's Congress Party. He is a member of the Fula ethnic group. Education Jalloh attended the Methodist Boys’ High School in Freetown and then completed his A levels at Prince of Wales School.
