Jalgaon () is a city in Maharashtra, India. The city is located in North Maharashtra, and serves as the administrative headquarters of its namesake district, the Jalgaon district. Jalgaon is colloquially known as the “''Banana City of India''" as the region's (Jalgaon district) farmers grow approximately two-thirds of Maharashtra's banana production. The Girna river flows from the western part of the city. Jalgaon is situated in the Khandesh region of North Maharashtra. In 1906 Khandesh was divided between East Khandesh and West Khandesh, and Jalgaon became the headquarters of East Khandesh district. After the 1956 reorganisation of India's states, East Khandesh became part of Bombay State and later in 1960 it became part of Maharashtra. Transport Jalgaon’s airport was built in 1973 by the Public Works Department. North Maharashtra or Uttar Maharashtra is a geographical region in the Maharashtra state of India. It comprises the Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon districts. Khandesh
Khandesh is a geographic region in Central India, which includes parts of the northwestern portion of Maharashtra as well as Burhanpur District of Madhya Pradesh. The use of Khandeshi Language (a.k.a. the Ahirani Language) is prevalent in this region, and the language itself derives its name from the name of the region. This language is sometimes considered as a dialect of Marathi due to its mutual intelligibility with it, and hence has lower numbers in the census due to people opting their language as Marathi instead. Yawal Wildlife Sanctuary
Located in the Yawal Tehsil of the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, India, Yawal Wildlife Sanctuary is spread over an area of approximately covered by dense forest. It is situated at the banks of the Anner and Manjar rivers and at the border of Madhya Pradesh covering 178 sq. km of area. It has many varieties of flora and fauna. Excessive deforestation and tree smuggling have led to serious habitat degradation at the beginning of this century. The local government, indigenous groups, and several environmental organizations have worked to reverse the damage.
