Jakob Tower
Jakob Tower ( bn, জ্যাকব টাওয়ার) is a tourist watchtower located in the Char Fasson town of Bhola Island in southern Bangladesh. Natural beauty can be enjoyed from this tower up to an area of . It is the tallest watchtower in Bangladesh as well as in the subcontinent. Built in the style of the Eiffel Tower, the 16-story watch tower can accommodate 50 visitors on each floor and 500 visitors throughout the tower. Location The Watch Tower is located in front of the Khasmahal Mosque on Char Fasson College Road, an Upazila town on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, from Bhola district town. Naming It was not called Jakob Tower at the beginning of construction. Former Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed visited the tower under construction on May 16, 2017, and was impressed by the construction style and aesthetic beauty of the tower and named it 'Jakob Tower'. Tofail Ahmed (politician)
Tofail Ahmed (born 22 October 1943) is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a 7-term Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Bhola-1, Bhola-2 and Bakerganj-1 constituencies since 1973. Previously he served as the Minister of Commerce and Minister of Industries of the Government of Bangladesh. Background Ahmed was born on 22 October 1943 in Bhola in the then Bengal Presidency, British India. Ahmed joined the Awami League and in support of the 1966 Six point movement of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. was involved in the 1969 mass uprising in East Pakistan as a student leader. He was the vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union. In 1970, Ahmed was a political secretary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Tarua is a dish of thinly sliced vegetables coated with rice batter and deep fried. It originates from the South Asia, and is popular among Maithils of India and Nepal.
