Jakgwaecheon
Jakgwaecheon is a stream and popular tourist attraction in Ulju County, Ulsan, South Korea. Formed by water erosion, the stream is lined with rocks that have been carved with the names of poetry contest winners. Ulsan (), officially the Ulsan Metropolitan City is South Korea's seventh-largest metropolitan city and the eighth-largest city overall, with a population of over 1.1 million inhabitants. Carved
Carving is the act of using tools to shape something from a material by scraping away portions of that material. The technique can be applied to any material that is solid enough to hold a form even when pieces have been removed from it, and yet soft enough for portions to be scraped away with available tools. March 1st Movement
The March 1st Movement, also known as the Sam-il (3-1) Movement (Hangul: 삼일 운동; Hanja: 三一 運動), was a protest movement by Korean people and students calling for independence from Japan in 1919, and protesting forced assimilation into the Japanese way of life. Thirty-three Korean cultural and religious leaders issued a proclamation, supported by thousands of students and civilians in Seoul. There were over 1000 demonstrations in many other cities. They were brutally suppressed, with Korean historian Park Eun-sik reporting about 7,500 killed and 16,000 wounded, and 46,000 arrested. These were among the earliest public displays of Korean resistance during the rule of Korea by Japan from 1910 to 1945. The event occurred on March 1, 1919, hence the movement's name, literally meaning "Three-One Movement" or "March First Movement" in Korean. Eonyang
Eonyang is an ''eup'', or large village, in Ulju-gun, a largely rural district of Ulsan, South Korea. It is near the Seoknam Nun's Temple. It has a traditional market every five days. Education Eonyang is home to two public schools which focus on science and technology. UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology) is a university emphasizing science and technology. As of April 2012, the school has a teaching staff of 184, and a student population of more than 3,800. Ulsan Science High School is a selective public boarding high school which focuses on the sciences. It is located in Sangbuk-myeon (상북면), near Eonyang. Founded in 2006, the school has advanced facilities and a large campus which is situated in a secluded, mountainous environment.
