Jagged Alliance (series)
''Jagged Alliance'' is a series of turn-based tactics video games. The first games in the series were released for DOS. From '' Jagged Alliance 2'' on, the games were developed using DirectX for native Windows operation. ''Jagged Alliance 2'' was also released for Linux and is available on Steam and on GOG.com for Windows. Overview The ''Jagged Alliance'' games center on strategically controlling mercenary squads, on and off the field, who complete various missions such as freeing countries from oppressive dictators. The games feature a mix of turn-based battle simulation, 4X (explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate) elements and role-playing. Humour via spoken character comments is a trademark of the series. Sir-Tech Canada
Sir-Tech Software, Inc. was a video game developer and publisher based in the United States and Canada. History In fall 1979, Sirotech Software was founded by Norman Sirotek, Robert Sirotek and Robert Woodhead. Sirotech Software published ''Info Tree'', a database management program, '' Galactic Attack'' and a beta version of ''Wizardry: Dungeons of Despair'' which was later renamed '' Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord'' and formally released in fall 1981. It was the first game in the ''Wizardry'' series. In spring 1981, Sir-Tech Software, Inc was incorporated as a video game developer and publisher in the United States. In 1998, Sir-Tech USA closed. Death is the irreversible cessation of all biological functions that sustain an organism. A role-playing video game (commonly referred to as simply a role-playing game or RPG, as well as a computer role-playing game or CRPG) is a video game genre where the player controls the actions of a character (or several party members) immersed in some well-defined world, usually involving some form of character development by way of recording statistics. 4X Game
4X (abbreviation of ''Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate'') is a subgenre of strategy-based computer and board games, and include both turn-based and real-time strategy titles. The gameplay involves building an empire. Emphasis is placed upon economic and technological development, as well as a range of military and non-military routes to supremacy. The earliest 4X games borrowed ideas from board games and 1970s text-based computer games. The first 4X computer games were turn-based, but real-time 4X games are common. In video and other games, the passage of time must be handled in a way that players find fair and easy to understand. This is usually done in one of the two ways: real-time and turn-based. Real-time Real-time games have game time progress continuously according to the game clock. One example of such a game is the sandbox game ''Terraria'', where one day-night cycle of 24 hours is equal to 24 minutes in real time. Players perform actions simultaneously as opposed to in sequential units or turns. A dictator is a political leader who possesses absolute power. A dictatorship is a state ruled by one dictator or by a small clique. A mercenary, sometimes also known as a soldier of fortune or hired gun, is a private individual, particularly a soldier, that joins a military conflict for personal profit, is otherwise an outsider to the conflict, and is not a member of any other official military. Mercenaries fight for money or other forms of payment rather than for political interests. DirectX
Microsoft DirectX is a collection of application programming interfaces (APIs) for handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video, on Microsoft platforms. Originally, the names of these APIs all began with "Direct", such as Direct3D, DirectDraw, DirectMusic, DirectPlay, DirectSound, and so forth. ''Jagged Alliance 2'' is a tactical role-playing game for PC, released in 1999 for Microsoft Windows and later ported to Linux by Tribsoft. It is the third entry in the ''Jagged Alliance'' series. The game was followed by the expansion '' Unfinished Business'' in 2000. Two commercial versions of the mod ''Wildfire'' were released in 2004 in the form of expansion packs. The core game and the ''Unfinished Business'' expansion were combined and released under the title '' Jagged Alliance 2 Gold Pack'' in 2002. The game takes place in the fictional country of Arulco, which has been ruled by the ruthless monarch Deidranna for several years.
