Jaden Dogireiy
Jaden Dogireiy (born 3 July 1977) is a former opposition member of the Parliament of Nauru. Career In the 2016 parliamentary election, Dogireiy was elected to represent the Anabar Constituency. Dogireiy served on the following committees: Constitutional Review, Privileges, Public Accounts, and Standing Orders. On 20 July 2016, Dogireiy was sworn in as assistant minister for Home Affairs, National Emergency Services, and the Nauru Utilities Corporation under President Baron Waqa. Dogireiy was a member of the opposition. On 30 March 2017, President Waqa revoked his positions as assistant minister for National Emergency Services and the Nauru Utilities Corporation. Dogireiy was charged with assault. Ludwig Derangadage Scotty (born 20 June 1948) is a Nauruan politician who twice served as President of Nauru and was Speaker of Parliament five times between 2000 and 2016. He served as president from 29 May 2003 to 8 August 2003 and again from 22 July 2004 until his ousting in a vote of no confidence on 19 December 2007. He was elected as president in 2003, again from November 2010 to April 2013, and from June 2013 to June 2016. 2016 Nauruan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Nauru on 9 July 2016. On 10 June 2016, the Parliament was dissolved by President Baron Waqa after it completed its three-year term. Speaker Ludwig Scotty called the elections for 9 July, with nominations taking place between 19 and 25 June 2016. Electoral system The 19 members of Parliament were elected from eight multi-member constituencies using the Dowdall system, a version of ranked voting; voters ranked candidates, with the votes counted as a fraction of 1 divided by the ranking number (e.g. a candidate ranked second will be scored as ½); the candidates with the highest total are elected. Baron Divavesi Waqa (; born 31 December 1959) is a Nauruan politician who was the 14th President of Nauru from 11 June 2013 until 27 August 2019. He previously served as Minister of Education from 2004 to 2007. Political role Waqa was elected in the May 2003 elections to the Parliament of Nauru, representing the constituency of Boe. Under President Ludwig Scotty, he served as Minister of the Interior and of Education; however, he had to leave the post upon Scotty's replacement by René Harris. He kept his seat in Parliament. The Supreme Court of Nauru was the highest court in the judicial system of the Republic of Nauru till the establishment of the Nauruan Court of Appeal in 2018. Constitutional establishment It is established by part V of the Constitution, adopted upon Nauru's independence from Australia in 1968. Mohammed Shafiullah Khan (born in Fiji) is a judge of the Supreme Court of Nauru, appointed in 2014. Career Mohammed Khan has over 30 years legal experience, including as a magistrate in Fiji and the Solomon Islands. He is admitted as legal practitioner in Australia. Judge Khan was appointed by the Nauru Government in 2014.
