Jacques Secrétin
Jacques Secrétin (; 18 March 1949 – 25 November 2020) was a French international table tennis player. He was selected for the French national team at the age of 13 and became one of the most successful table tennis players in French history. In a 26-year career Secrétin was singles champion of France 17 times and European single champion in 1976. He won the gold medal in mixed doubles at the 1977 World Table Tennis Championships in Birmingham, England. Outside of competitions he formed a show with Vincent Purkart that demonstrated table tennis tricks and exhibitions, which made more than 4,000 performances. Carvin
Carvin () is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. Geography An ex-coalmining commune, now a light industrial and farming town, situated some northeast of Lens, completely encircled by the N17 and D919 ring road. Patrick Birocheau
Patrick Birocheau (born 23 September 1955) is a French former table tennis player. He won a bronze medal at the 1981 World Championships in doubles, as well as several medals at the European Championships throughout the 1980s. He represented his country at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul. In the singles competition, Birocheau was eliminated in the group phase after winning three of his seven matches. He teamed up with future World Champion Jean-Philippe Gatien in the doubles competition, but they were similarly eliminated after winning four of their seven matches. In addition to his international success, Birocheau won eleven gold medals at the French National Championships: one in singles (1976), nine in doubles (1973–76, 1978, 1979, 1982, 1987, 1988), and one in mixed doubles (1983). Jean-Philippe Gatien
Jean-Philippe Gatien (, born 16 October 1968 in Alès, France) is a retired French table tennis player. He competed at four Olympics from 1988 to 2000, winning silver in the singles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and bronze in doubles (with Patrick Chila) at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He won the World Table Tennis Championships in 1993, the Table Tennis World Cup in 1994, and was 13-time "champion de France". A left-handed player, his offensive style featured a superb forehand smash. He also won three English Open titles. Following numerous injuries, Gatien retired on May 15, 2004. Having made his debut with French club AS Salindres, he made his final public appearance there in an exhibition match with Patrick Chila, June 2006. His long list of victories make him the greatest French table tennis player of all time. Claude Bergeret
Claude Bergeret (born 19 October 1954) is a female former international table tennis player from France. Table tennis career She started playing table tennis at the age of 10 in Annecy. Her style of play was based on the counterattack. From 1974 to 1979 she won three medals in mixed and women's doubles in the Table Tennis European Championships and two medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. She won a gold medal in the mixed doubles event with Jacques Secrétin at the 1977 World Table Tennis Championships in Birmingham. She was six time national singles champion. Coaching She retired in 1982 and became coach of the France junior team from 1983 to 1985, then the senior team in 1986-1987 and later appointed Vice President of the European Table Tennis Federation. Gold Medal
A gold medal is a medal awarded for highest achievement in a non-military field. Its name derives from the use of at least a fraction of gold in form of plating or alloying in its manufacture. Since the eighteenth century, gold medals have been awarded in the arts, for example, by the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, usually as a symbol of an award to give an outstanding student some financial freedom.
