Jacques Hurtubise (cartoonist)
Jacques Hurtubise (November 1950 – 11 December 2015) was a Canadian cartoonist and publisher. He was one of the founders of '' Croc'' magazine and is considered one of the most prominent figures in Quebec comics of the 1970s and 1980s. He was born in Ottawa. Hurtubise's earliest work appeared in his first attempt at a comics magazine was ''L'Hydrocéphale Illustré'' in November 1971, in collaboration with Gilles Desjardins and Françoise Barrette. It was not a success. Following it, he founded a group of young Canadian artists called the Coopérative des Petits Dessins. Throughout the 1970s he produced over 200 comic strips for the newspaper ''Le Jour''. In these strips appeared the characters le Sombre Vilain and his sidekick Bill, the gluttonous boa constrictor who loved to eat pizza delivery men. Mira Falardeau
Mira Falardeau (born 1948) is a French Canadian historian, professor, and author of comic strips (French: ''bande dessinée'', BD). Falardeau has devoted works to Québec animated films, Québec comic strips and caricatures in Québec, focusing on visual humour in all its forms. She taught as a professor of cinema and communication at Laval University and the University of Ottawa. Falardeau has also curated exhibitions in the visual arts and operated a small publishing house. Biography Falardeau graduated with a Master's degree in art history from Laval University in Québec in 1978. John Bell (born 1952) is a Canadian comics historian and senior archivist at Library and Archives Canada (Ottawa, Ontario). He specializes in the history of English Canadian comic books, and has curated a number of exhibitions and websites. He has contributed to the ''Literary Review of Canada'', ''Event'', ''This Magazine'', and '' Maisonneuve'', and was former editor of the poetry magazine ''Arc''. On the subject of comics, he has contributed to ''The Comics Journal'', ''The Canadian Encyclopedia'', ''The Classics Collector'', and ''Heritage Post''. The Rhinoceros Party (sometimes referred to in English as the Second Rhinoceros Party), officially the Parti Rhinocéros Party, is a Canadian federal-level political party. It was known as neorhino.ca until 2010, when the party changed its name, registering a new party logo. It was created in Montreal on May 21, 2006, and recognized by Elections Canada as being eligible for registration on August 16, 2007, and an official political party on August 23, 2007. It is the successor to the Rhinoceros Party of Canada. The party was founded by François "Yo" Gourd, who was involved with the original incarnation of the First Rhinoceros Party. Albert Chartier (16 June 1912 – 25 February 2004) was a French-Canadian cartoonist and illustrator, best known for having created the comic strip ''Onésime''. Biography Albert Chartier was the son of Joseph Chartier, a traveling salesman who lived in the United States, an employee of the company Lowney's. He inherited his father's innate sense for business practice and perfect command of English which enabled him to become a comic artist of international caliber.
