Jacques Géry (12 March 1917, Paris – 15 June 2007, Sarlat, France) was a French ichthyologist. He was also a scientist and a Doctor of Medicine. Green Neon Tetra
The green neon tetra (''Paracheirodon simulans'') is a freshwater fish of the family Characidae of order Characiformes. It is native to the upper Orinoco and Negro Rivers in South America. This fish is similar in appearance to the closely related and better-known neon tetra, but it is slightly smaller, and its red patch is less pronounced, while the blue-green areas of the upper body are more brilliant. Also, its body is slimmer than that of the neon tetra. It grows to a maximum overall length of about . Like the other ''Paracheirodon'' species, the green neon tetra is kept as an aquarium fish, but it is less commonly seen than either the neon tetra or the cardinal tetra. The black neon tetra (''Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi'') is a freshwater fish of the characin family (Characidae) of the order Characiformes. It is native to the Paraguay basin of southern Brazil. They are often found in the aquarium trade. Named in honor of pet-book publisher Herbert R. Axelrod (1927-2017), whose Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine published this description and several others by Géry. Description This species is of typical elongated tetra appearance; it is of plain basic coloration, but with two distinct, adjacent, longitudinal stripes; white above black. ''Hyphessobrycon sweglesi'' is a species of tetra that lives in the Orinoco River drainage basin in South America. The fish has a round black spot behind the gill-plate, a black band on the dorsal fin that is bordered above and below by creamy-white. The other fins are red same as the upper rim of the eye. The fish eats worms, small insects, and crustaceans. The species can lay up to 400 eggs that can hatch in a day and that are susceptible to fungus.
