Jacqueline Simoneau
Jacqueline Simoneau (born September 29, 1996) is a Canadian synchronized swimmer. Career In 2011, Simoneau won a gold medal in the Solo and Duet events, and a silver medal in the Figure event at the 2011 UANA Pan American Championships. In 2012, she qualified for her first National Team where she won a bronze medal in the Team event at the Comen Cup. In the same year, she won a bronze medal in the Solo event at the 2012 FINA World Junior Championships. In 2013, she won a bronze medal in both Technical and Free team at the Brazil Open. She finished 5th at the 2013 FINA World Aquatics Championships in the Technical team and Combo events, and 6th at the Free Team event. Simoneau won a silver medal in the Solo event at the 2014 FINA World Junior Synchronized Swimming Championships, getting gold in the Technical Routine and silver in the Free routine. Synchronized swimming (in British English, synchronised swimming) or artistic swimming is a sport where swimmers perform a synchronized choreographed routine, accompanied by music. The sport is governed internationally by FINA (the ''Fédération internationale de natation'' or International Swimming Federation). It is traditionally a women's sport, although FINA introduced a new mixed gender duet competition that included one male swimmer in each duet at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and LEN introduced men's individual events at the 2022 European Aquatics Championships. Karine Thomas (born January 14, 1989) was a Canadian synchronized swimmer. Her parents were on the national water-polo team. Her grandmother, Esther Blais-Valin, was a synchronized swimmer in the 1940s and 50s. Career Thomas began synchronized swimming at age ten, at thirteen she moved to Montreal to further her training. She joined the national team in 2007 and competed in her first world championships that year. Thomas was a two time Olympian competing in the women's team event at the 2012 Olympic Games, finishing fourth, and in the duet event at the 2016 Olympics, finishing seventh. Synchronized swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro were staged from 15 to 20 August at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Center. A total of 104 athletes competed in two medal events, namely the women's duet and the women's team. Qualification For the team competitions, the best ranked NOC in each of the five continental championships, with the exception of the host country Brazil which represented the Pan American continent, obtained a secured place for the Games, while the remaining NOCs battled out for the three highest-ranked spots at the Olympic Qualification Tournament. Artistic swimming competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru are scheduled were held between July 29 and 31, 2019 at the Aquatics Centre in the Villa Deportiva Nacional Videna cluster. The sport was renamed from synchronized swimming to artistic swimming in 2017, making this the first edition of the Pan American Games to have the new title.
