Jacqueline Kapinowski
Jacqueline "Jacqui" Kapinowski (born November 28, 1962) is a two-time American Paralympian who competed in wheelchair curling at the 2010 Winter Paralympics and in rowing at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Kapinowski was born in Belleville, New Jersey, on November 28, 1962. Raised in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, she attended Point Pleasant Borough High School. She had bacterial meningitis at ages 23 and 28 and started having seizures at age 35. At the age of 39 she was diagnosed with stiff person syndrome (SPS), a neurological disease that results in her needing to use a wheelchair as it makes walking painful and causes seizures and spasms. It has also resulted in broken ribs and vertebrae. In 2014 she was diagnosed with thyroid and throat cancer but reports being cancer-free in 2017. She is married with two sons and a grandson. Wheelchair Curling
Wheelchair curling is an adaptation of curling for athletes with a disability affecting their lower limbs or gait. Wheelchair curling is governed by the World Curling Federation, and is one of the sports in the Winter Paralympic Games. Overview Wheelchair curling is played with the same rocks and on the same ice as regular curling, though the rocks are thrown from a stationary wheelchair and there is no sweeping. Rocks may be thrown by hand while leaning over the side of the wheelchair, or pushed by a delivery stick. This is a pole with a bracket that fits over the rock handle, allowing the rock to be pushed while applying correct rotation. Stones delivered between the house and the near hogline must be placed within 18 inches either side of the centre line and must be released prior to reaching the near hogline. Patrick McDonald (curler)
Patrick McDonald (born June 9, 1967) is an American wheelchair curler based in Madison, Wisconsin. Career McDonald first started curling in 2008. McDonald first represented the United States in international competition as the alternate for the American team at the 2009 World Wheelchair Curling Championship. He then represented the United States as third under skip Augusto Perez in the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, where they finished fourth. McDonald became the skip of the United States wheelchair curling team in 2012, and led his team to a fifth-place finish in the world championship. He skipped the United States team at the 2013 World Wheelchair Curling Championship, and led his team to a fourth-place finish after losing in the semifinal to Canada's Jim Armstrong and losing a tight game to China in the bronze medal game. The United States competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 September to 18 September 2016. The first places the team qualified were for three athletes in sailing events. They also qualified athletes in archery, goalball, shooting, swimming, and wheelchair basketball. Team The United States had a team of 267 sportspeople scheduled to compete in 20 different sports at the 2016 Games. The team was 17% larger than the one that compete at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Aiguebelette-le-Lac () is a commune and village in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. In 2016, it had a population of 249 people.
