The 2011 World Rowing Championships were World Rowing Championships that were held from 28 August to 4 September 2011 at Lake Bled in the Slovenian city of Bled. Lake Bled
Lake Bled ( sl, Blejsko jezero; german: Bleder See, Veldeser See) is a lake in the Julian Alps of the Upper Carniolan region of northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The area is a tourist destination. The lake is from Ljubljana International Airport and from the capital city, Ljubljana. Lake Bled is from the Lesce–Bled train station. Geography and history The lake is of mixed glacial and tectonic origin. It is long and wide, with a maximum depth of , and it has a small island. The lake lies in a picturesque environment, surrounded by mountains and forests. Lake Bled was an important cult centre during the Bronze Age. Gold appliqués dating from the 13th-12th century BC were found in a deposit by the lake shore. The embossed decorations on the appliqués are thought to represent the solar and lunar year. Stephan Krüger
Stephan Krüger (born 29 November 1988, Rostock) is a German rower. He was part of the German quadruple sculls team at the 2008 Summer Olympics, with René Bertram, Hans Gruhne and Christian Schreiber. The team finished in 6th. In 2009, he won the gold medal in the men's double sculls with Eric Knittel at the 2009 World Championships. In 2011, Krüger and Gruhne won silver in the men's double sculls at the World Championships in Bled. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the men's double sculls with Eric Knittel, finishing in 9th. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he competed in men's double sculls with teammate Marcel Hacker. They finished in 8th place. Damir Martin (born 14 July 1988) is a Croatian rower. He won silver in the men's single scull at the 2016 Olympics losing to Mahé Drysdale in a photo finish and beating the multiple time world champion Ondřej Synek. Martin Sinković
Martin Sinković (born 10 November 1989) is a Croatian rower. He is the younger brother of rower Valent Sinković, with whom he won the gold medal in Men's double sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. He had previously won the silver in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics with his brother, David Šain and Damir Martin. The Sinković brothers were the first men's double sculls team to go under 6 minutes for their race time. Martin and Valent have been racing together internationally since 2008. He is an Olympic silver medalist in the men's quadruple sculls, having won silver at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Martin Sinković, Damir Martin and Valent Sinković. Lauritz Schoof (born 7 October 1990 in Rendsburg) is a German rower. He was part of the German crew that won the gold medal in the men's quadruple sculls at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He also successfully defended the quadruple sculls title at the 2016 Rio Olympics as part of the German team. Daniel Noonan (born 28 October 1979 in Warren, New South Wales) is an Australian former representative rower. He was a national champion, a world champion, a dual Olympian and an Olympic medal winner. Club and state rowing Noonan was educated at St Ignatius College, Riverview where he took up rowing. At Riverview in 1997 he stroked the school's 1st VIII to victory in the Riverview Gold Cup regatta – one of the premier events in the Sydney club calendar. Karsten Forsterling (born 21 January 1980) is an Australian former representative rower. He was a national champion, world champion, a dual Olympian and Olympic medal winner. He represented Australia at eight senior world rowing championships between 2002 and 2019 in both sculling and sweep oared boats. Education Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Forsterling was schooled at St Vincent's Primary in the ACT and took up rowing in high school at the Melbourne Grammar School. James McRae (born 27 June 1987) is an Australian former representative rower. He is a national champion, world champion, three time Olympian, Olympic medallist and record holder. In the Australian men's quad scull he won a silver medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
