Jacobswoude
Jacobswoude () is a former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland, now part of municipality Kaag en Braassem. Before the merger with Alkemade, the municipality covered an area of 41.37 km² (25.71 mile²) of which 4.88 km² (3.03 mile²) is water, mainly the lakes Braassemermeer and Wijde Aa. It consisted of the communities Bilderdam, Hoogmade, Leimuiden, Rijnsaterwoude, and Woubrugge, all located around the above-mentioned lakes. It had a population of 10,692 on 1 January 2004. Jacobswoude is located in the center of the ''Groene Hart'' (Green Heart), the slightly less densely populated center area of the Randstad. Inhabitants of Jacobswoude depend on Alphen aan den Rijn, Leiden and Amsterdam for facilities not offered in the smaller villages. Alkemade
Alkemade () is a former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Before its merger with Jacobswoude, the municipality covered an area of 30.91 km² (11.93 mile² ) of which 3.94 km² (1.52 mile²) is water. It had a population of 14,481 in 2004. The municipality of Alkemade comprised the communities of Kaag, Nieuwe Wetering, Oud Ade, Oude Wetering, Rijpwetering, and Roelofarendsveen. There is no settlement called Alkemade itself. The municipality has many greenhouses and 13 windmills, one of which dates from 1632. Water sports are popular here because of its location on the lakes Kagerplassen and Braassemermeer. On January 1, 2009, Alkemade and Jacobswoude merged and formed the new municipality of Kaag en Braassem. Kaag en Braassem () is a municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. It was formed on 1 January 2009, through the merger of Alkemade and Jacobswoude. Woubrugge
Woubrugge is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 10 km east of the city of Leiden, in the municipality of Kaag en Braassem. History The village was first mentioned in 1493 as Woubregge, and means "bridge over the Woudwetering". The Woutbroeke mentioned in 1252 is a different settlement. Woubrugge started as a peat excavation settlement, but turned into a linear agricultural settlement along the Woudwetering. The Dutch Reformed church is a pseudo cruciform church between 1652 and 1653 and designed by Pieter Post. It has a twelve sided ridge turret with needle spire. Woubrugge was home to 932 people in 1840. It was a separate municipality until 1991, when it became part of Jacobswoude. In 2009, it became part of the municipality of Kaag en Braassem. Rijnsaterwoude
Rijnsaterwoude is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 6 km north of the town of Alphen aan den Rijn, in the municipality of Kaag en Braassem. History The village was first mentioned in the first half of the 11th century as Rinsaterwalt, and means "forest of people who live along the (Oude) Rijn". Rijnsaterwoude developed as a peat excavation settlement in the Middle Ages along the . The Dutch Reformed church Woudse Dom is a single aisled church with built-in tower. The choir was built around 1500. The nave and tower were rebuilt are being damaged by a storm in 1552. The church was restored between 1956 and 1958. The ''polder'' mill De Geestmolen was built in 1707. In 1960, the windmill sail broke and an electro motor was installed. In 1963, it was sold and restored in 1964. Leimuiden is a Dutch village in the South Holland municipality of Kaag en Braassem. Leimuiden is located between the Braassemermeer, the Westeinderplassen and the Ringvaart. Leimuiden is located north of Alphen aan den Rijn. History The village was first mentioned in the first half of the 11th century as Letthemutha, and means "mouth of the Leiden river". Leimuiden is a peat excavation settlement from the Middle Ages. The Dutch Reformed church is an aisleless church with built-in tower with needle spire. It was built in 1805 as a replacement of the 1555 church. It was restored between 1963 and 1965, and a consistory was added. Leimuiden was home to 551 people in 1840. Wireless Leiden
Wireless Leiden is a wireless community network in Leiden, Netherlands. History The Wireless Leiden Foundation (founded in 2002) set up a Wi-Fi wireless network in Leiden, the Netherlands, only with the help of volunteers, with some financial support by sponsors. The network is maintained completely by volunteers. The network is accessible free for everybody who wants to use it. This is possible because there are no expenses of any importance, as the volunteers who build and maintain the network do not receive any payment for their contribution and the materials needed were donated. The software used in the network is completely open source. Internet provider Demon Internet, donates free Internet access to the foundation. Wireless community networks (WCNs) or wireless community projects or simply community networks, are non-centralized, self-managed and collaborative networks organized in a grassroots fashion by communities, NGO's and cooperatives in order to provide a viable alternative to municipal wireless networks for consumers. Louis the Pious (german: Ludwig der Fromme; french: Louis le Pieux; 16 April 778 – 20 June 840), also called the Fair, and the Debonaire, was King of the Franks and co-emperor with his father, Charlemagne, from 813.
