Marnie McGuire
Marnie McGuire (born 22 February 1969) is a former New Zealand professional golfer who played mostly on the LPGA of Japan Tour. McGuire won the British Ladies Amateur in 1986 as a 17-year-old and was at the time the youngest champion in the tournament's history. She was also the individual winner of the 1991 Queen Sirikit Cup. She played college golf at Oklahoma State where she was an All-American in 1990. While at Oklahoma State, she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma which led her to compete wearing long-sleeved shirts, a big floppy hat, and long slacks. McGuire won five times as a professional on the Japan Tour and was awarded the Sportswoman of the Year title at the 1996 Halberg Awards. The Giant Eagle LPGA Classic was an official golf tournament on the LPGA Tour held in the Youngstown, Ohio area. From its beginnings in 1990 until 1992, it was known as The Phar-Mor in Youngstown and was held at Squaw Creek Country Club in Vienna Township, Ohio. It became the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic in 1993 and was held at Avalon Lakes Golf Club in Warren, Ohio until 2000. In 1997, Pittsburgh-based grocery store chain Giant Eagle took over the title sponsorship of the tournament. The tournament returned to Squaw Creek in 2001. The last tournament was held in 2004. The 1999 LPGA Tour was the 50th season since the LPGA Tour officially began in 1950. The season ran from January 15 to November 14. The season consisted of 38 official money events. Karrie Webb won the most tournaments, six. She also led the money list with earnings of $1,591,959. The season saw the first tournament with a winner's share of over $300,000, the U.S. Women's Open. Jeffrey Gallagher (born December 29, 1964) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour and the Nationwide Tour. He is the younger brother of five-time PGA Tour winner Jim Gallagher Jr. and LPGA Tour golfer Jackie Gallagher-Smith. Gallagher has won twice on the Nationwide Tour, once in 1991 at the Ben Hogan Cleveland Open and another in 2000 at the BUY.COM South Carolina Classic.
